All the events that are fit to produce: How The New York Times migrated to
Confluent Cloud
San Jose McEnery Convention Center, CFLT++
Do you have your own Kafka cluster and are interested in the wonderful world of
managed Kafka with Confluent Cloud? At one point we were too! This is the story
of our journey to improve operational maturity, reduce maintenance overhead, and
streamline the developer experience. During this talk Ami Berger, a developer on
the Publishing Pipeline team at The New York Times, will tell you about his
team’s year and a half long experience of migrating from their self-managed
Kafka cluster hosted on Google Cloud to a Confluent Cloud managed cluster and
all of the learnings that they came away with. He will go into designing the
migration process, building helper tools, helping other teams migrate their
consumers, all the way to the big day when they were able to turn off their old
Kafka cluster! We will also explore some of the reasons that the Publishing
Pipeline team chose Confluent and features like ksqlDB we are excited about
using now and in the future!
