Mike Whitty

WELCOME TO THE MR. MIKE'S NEIGHBORHOOD

My name is Mike Whitty, and I'd like to Welcome you to  Mr. Mike's
Neighborhood.  Some of you may recognize me from my walks around the park, or
others may have passed by my beautiful garden.  But I'm a 12 year resident, own
my home, and am planning on spending the rest of my years in this beautiful
park.  And it's for this reason that I'm offering my Neighbors, Mr. Mike's
Neighborhood.  I want every Neighbor to enjoy this Community as much as I do; to
know your Neighbors, to take pride in your Community, to have a vested interest
in making your, and your Neighbors time here as enjoyable and memorable as
possible.  And more importantly, to have some fun.  Plus, you'll experience the
pride in knowing that you had a hand in it.

One of our

wonderful Neighbors

wishes you a

Happy Valentines Day.

I'M SORRY!  I TRIED TO HELP YOU, BUT SUN AND MANAGEMENT SAID NO

I asked Nicolette and Sun Regional Vice President Joel Shekell if they would
send out a mass email to all our Neighbors regarding mail pickup at the Mound
post office so we could take Neighbors who had no way of getting there.  They
wouldn't do it.  Even when the ice on sidewalks started freezing after they
plowed, which I considered an emergency, I asked why they wouldn't hire a
company to remove the ice mounds so the mail could be delivered.  They wouldn't
do it.  Their attitude is, they;re not going to help you and they don't want me
helping you either.  It shows just how much you're cared about by people who
would gladly take your rent, but nothing more.  If you're waiting for a Social
Security Check, Retirement Check, or any other mail you need, just let me know.
I'll take you without their permission.

WE'LL HELP YOU GET YOUR MAIL  1/23/24

If you don't know yet, the mail service will not deliver your mail until the
sidewalks are shoveled.  The fact is the ice was so heavy that even I couldn't
do my walk.  So you'll need to go to the Warren Post Office on Mound Rd. to get
your mail.

If you have no way of getting there, Mr. Mike's Neighborhood will drive you in
groups of 4.  So if you'd like our help, just send me a text to 248-705-9306 and
we'll take care of you.

KEEP YOUR MOBILE HOMES WATER PIPES FROM FREEZING

Unfortunately, mobile homes are very prone to pipes freezing because they are
smaller and have thinner materials making up their walls and foundation. The
process of making sure your mobile home stays protected is different than in a
stationary home, as well.

First, make sure you have heat tape around the pipes plus some insulation around
the pipe that goes into the ground.

Next, make sure all your skirting is together so freezing winds to get under
your home.

And finally, DRIP!  Once the temperature drops into the 20's, and the wind chill
factor is even lower, I drip my kitchen faucet.  This keeps the water flowing
and reduces stationary water which can turn into ice.

If it's too late and your pipes have frozen, you'll need to go to a rental place
and get a kerosene turbo heater.  You'll remove a piece of skirting and place
the heater just outside your home.  Do not put it under or real close to your
home since it does get pretty hot.  Keep all your faucets open so once you see
the water running, you can turn it off, but keep the water running and flush
your toilet for a bit.  And now, DRIP!!

I'M IN TROUBLE AGAIN

Yesterday many of you saw Linda and I cleaning up the park.  We walk this park
every day so we see first hand how dirty it is.  We wanted our Neighbors guests
to see a beautiful park when they visited for the Holidays.  Neighbors have been
complaining to me about the trash forever, so we decided to do something about
it.  We cleaned up half the park and I put the trash bags next to Nicolette's
trash can so she can see how much trash is left after her groundskeeper does her
cleaning.  After emailing Nicolette what I did, she had several ways to handle
this:

- she could have thanked us for doing a nice job and helping her out.

- she could have trained the groundskeeper on how to do a better job.

- she could have emailed me and asked nicely not to put trash by her place.

- or she could have just ignored it and allowed us to continue.

But what did she do instead?  SHE CALLED THE POLICE ON ME.  He was nice enough
not to turn on his lights to attract attention, and was very apologetic, almost
embarrassed.  He simply said he received a complaint and had to comply, and
asked me not to go near her home.

But it didn't overshadow what happened to me while I was picking up trash on one
of the medians.  A small boy, maybe 10-12 years old, came out of his home, held
out his hand and said, "I don't have a buck, but please take this."  It was 35
cents.  I couldn't hold back a tear, and a strong hug ensued.  No matter what
Sun and Management does to me, these are the types of memories that will keep me
going.

NEW SERVICE

TRASH CAN TO THE CURB PROGRAM

One of our beautiful Neighbors, Gloria, has a hard time moving that big trash
can to the curb for trash pickup.  So she asked me if I would help.  This became
an outstanding idea I never thought of, especially as winter approaches.  So, if
you are disabled or a Senior that has no one to help you, text me and I'll put
you on my weekly list.  Every Sunday night I'll move your trash can to the curb,
and Monday I'll put it back.  So make sure all your interior trash that you want
to dispose of is in the big yellow trash can before Sunday 6pm.

Volunteer

If you can volunteer to help with services like this, let me know.  I can always
use the assistance.
