AMU PHYSICIAN PROF SHOAIB ZAHEER DIES IN DELHI

Aligarh : Distinguished physician and professor of Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru
Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Professor Mohammad
Shoaib Zaheer passed away at the BML Kapoor Hospital in New Delhi, where he was
undergoing treatment for the past twenty days. He was 55-years-old.

“His demise robbed the JNMC and university community not only of a leader in
response, but also of someone with a deep understanding of general medicine.
Prof Shoaib Zaheer was a popular physician and teacher who extensively trained
medical students into successful doctors,” said AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor
Tariq Mansoor.

He added: “My heart aches after hearing about the sad demise of Prof Shoaib
Zaheer. He was an incredible and undoubtedly one of the most caring faculty
members and his death is a personal loss for me”.



“Prof Shoaib Zaheer had a gift for soothing patients. He was always up to help
colleagues and students, always willing to go the extra mile”, said Prof Rakesh
Bhargava (Dean, Faculty of Medicine).

Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui (Principal, JNMC) said: Under Prof Shoaib Zaheer’s
guidance, students thrived and young teachers made great educational and
professional strides. He will be remembered for advocating the finest healthcare
for all and for exemplary services at the JNMC.

Prof Shoaib Zaheer published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals, authored
an academic book, wrote book chapters, and edited many books. He was appointed
as a lecturer at JNMC in 1992 and was eventually promoted to the posts of
Associate Professor and Professor respectively.

Besides working at JNMC, Prof Shoaib Zaheer also worked at the Consultant
College of Medicine, King Khalid University, Abha, Saudi Arabia and Diwan of
Royal Court, The Palace, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

He completed M D (General Medicine) in 1991 and MBBS in 1988 from JNMC.
