Welcome to Henley-on-Thames A town and civil parish on the River Thames in Oxfordshire. Henley-on-Thames is arguably one of the most beautiful towns in England. We were recently voted by The Times as one of the best places to live in the English countryside. Henley’s riverside location, surrounded by a Chiltern landscape of wooded hills and green fields, lends itself to relaxation, long lunches and great shopping. There’s a pub where Charles I drank, a Chantry house, a butcher that smokes his own meat and independent shops still offering the personal touch. Henley is a regular winner of RHS Britain in Bloom medals and the home of a well-known TV detective! We are home to the Henley Royal Regatta, arguably the best-known regatta in the world. It is one of the jewels in Henley’s crown. The historic decision to establish the regatta was made in our very own Town Hall. Henley-on-Thames is twinned with the Falaise, Leichlingen and Bled. We also have a friendship link with Boroma in Somalia. This website is managed by Henley-on-Thames Town Council. The Town Council is the most local tier of local government and works in partnership with South Oxfordshire District Council and Oxfordshire County Council. These three local government bodies look after different aspects of the town and community infrastructure. If you wish to find out more about who looks after what, then please have a look at our How we work page. If it is a Town Council responsibility, please get in touch by clicking here. Her reign has demonstrated an impeccable example of a constitutional monarchy, and her service to her nation and to us, her subjects, has been unrivalled.
