National holidays in Norway are regulated by the Act Respecting Public Holidays
and their Sanctity – 1995. This Act names the 10 national holidays and provides
the government with the authority to create additional national holidays as
one-time events if necessary.

Public holidays are seen as a time for celebration in Norway, but also as a time
to reflect on Peace. Part of this Act determines when celebrations can take
place, noise levels associated with these celebrations, and timings on when
these celebrations must end.

Under the Holiday Act of 1988, residents of Norway who do not actively practice
the Lutheran faith have the right to two paid days off a year that is based on
their religious preferences.
