Dear Kent Wasson,

At PayPal, we are always working to offer our customers the best payments
experience. That’s why we are introducing biometric identity verification, which
provides an extra layer of security to protect your account.

What is biometric identity verification?

It’s a secure way of verifying your identity by scanning your HKID and matching
it with a selfie you take of your face.

This secure and convenient process is being introduced by many personal finance
apps in Hong Kong.

What do I need to do?

Biometric identity verification will be coming to PayPal Hong Kong from July
2022 onwards.

We will notify you via emails and in-account notifications if we require you to
complete biometric identity verification. For example, verification requirement
may be triggered when you hit certain thresholds for the amount of money you
have sent or received using PayPal. We encourage you to verify your identity as
soon as possible when prompted, even if you have previously verified your
identity with PayPal. Once this step has been completed, the verification
process may take up to 7 days to complete.

In some instances, your account functionality may be limited until you’ve
completed your biometric identity verification, so please act when prompted to
avoid any disruption to your account. Further limitations to your account
functionality may take effect if you do not take action promptly. This means you
may not be able to send, receive or withdraw money temporarily from your PayPal
account without completing the verification process.

The PayPal mobile app, which will speed up the time it takes to verify your
identity and access PayPal services, is required for you to complete the
biometric identity verification process. Download or update to the latest
version of the PayPal app now to get ready.




Why is PayPal changing its identity verification process?

We are constantly looking for ways to improve our services. Biometric identity
verification uses the latest technology to help protect you against identity
theft and fraudulent activity in a quick and efficient way.
