When it comes to technological advancement, the situation today is very
different from that of ten years ago. Dubbed “drones” by the public, unmanned
aircraft systems (UAS) have acquired popular acceptance in a range of
businesses. Slowly but steadily, India is coming to terms with the implications
of this technology. The Aatmanirbhar Bharat agenda, which promotes technological
advancement, is now being supported by the government.

The Centre has also taken a number of initiatives to encourage the use of drone
technology in India, including the SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages Abadi & Mapping
with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme, liberalization of drone
rules, approval of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for drones and
drone components, the Hara Bhara campaign, the Gwalior Drone Mela, and the Kisan
Drone Yatra.
