Benefits

WHY MAKE A CPF NOMINATION

1
You decide who gets your CPF savings

With a CPF nomination, your CPF savings will be distributed to your nominees,
 according to your wishes.

Without a CPF nomination, your CPF savings will be distributed by the Public
Trustee’s Office to your family members  based on the intestacy laws or Muslim
Inheritance Certificate. You cannot decide which family member will receive your
savings or how much they will receive.

2
Fast and convenient distribution of your CPF savings

A CPF nomination allows your nominees  to claim your savings quickly and
conveniently.

Without a CPF nomination, it can take up to six months for the Public Trustee’s
Office to identify which of your family members are eligible to claim your
savings.

3
No extra costs to distribute your CPF savings to your nominees

Making a CPF nomination is free. Your nominees will not be required to pay any
charges to claim your CPF savings when you pass on.

Without a CPF nomination, the Public Trustee's Office will deduct an
administrative fee from your CPF savings before distributing to your family
members based on the intestacy laws or your Muslim Inheritance Certificate.

When to nominate

WHEN TO MAKE OR REVIEW A NOMINATION

1
When you should make a CPF nomination

You should make a CPF nomination as soon as you start working and building up
your CPF savings. In fact, you can make a nomination once you turn 16.

2
Review your CPF nomination regularly

After making your nomination, review your nomination regularly so that it can
continue to meet your intention especially at major milestones like:

 * Marriage
 * Child birth
 * Divorce
 * Death of a nominee

3
Marriage will revoke your CPF nomination

Upon marriage, any existing CPF nomination will be revoked. This allows you to
make provisions taking into account the change in your family nucleus.

Do make a new CPF nomination after you get married so that your CPF savings can
be distributed according to your wishes.

On the other hand, divorce will not revoke your nomination.

Quick tip

Make it a yearly reminder to review your CPF nomination at the start of the
year.

How it works

UNDERSTANDING WHAT’S INVOLVED IN NOMINATIONS

HOW NOMINATION WORKS

What a nomination covers
 1. CPF savings* in your Ordinary, Special, MediSave, and Retirement Accounts
 2. CPF LIFE unused premiums
 3. Discounted Singtel shares

* CPF savings cannot be included in your will because they do not form your
estate. This arrangement protects your CPF savings from creditor claims on any
outstanding debts you may have, and preserves your savings fully for your
nominees or family members.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What isn’t covered under a nomination
 1. Properties bought using your CPF savings
 2. Payout from Dependants’ Protection Scheme (DPS)
 3. Investments made under CPF Investment Scheme

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Distribution of your CPF savings

Upon your demise, CPF Board will get in touch with your nominees to facilitate
the distribution of your CPF savings. Your CPF savings will be distributed to
them in cash.

If you don’t have a nomination, your CPF savings will be transferred to the
Public Trustee’s Office for them to distribute to your beneficiaries in
accordance with the intestacy laws.

What to consider

THINGS TO NOTE BEFORE MAKING A NOMINATION

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who should receive your CPF savings and how much

You’ll need to decide on your nominees and the percentage of your CPF savings
each nominee should receive.

You can specify anyone as a nominee, including people who don’t have a CPF
account.

Witnesses for your nomination

Disputes on who should receive your CPF savings may sometimes arise after you
have passed on. That is why you have to appoint two witnesses who can attest
that you have made your nomination willingly and consciously. Your witnesses
cannot be your nominee or an organisation.

Disclosure of CPF account information

Upon your demise, your next-of-kin may want to know how much CPF savings you
have accumulated, who you have nominated to receive them and how much.

To protect your privacy, only your nominees will be informed of the amount they
will receive. They will not know how much CPF savings you have in total, or who
else you have nominated to receive your CPF savings.

This protects your privacy but can sometimes result in unhappiness. To avoid
this, you may choose to authorise specific persons to access your CPF account
information upon your demise. Without this explicit authorisation, your account
information and nomination decisions will not be revealed.
