FARM & SUSTAINABILITY

QUICKLINKS

 About Milk and Honey Farm

Milk and Honey Farm is a 2+ acre educational sustainable farm located on the
campus of the Boulder JCC. The farm brings the community together for
experiential programs and activities grounded in Jewish heritage, tradition, and
values. The farm provides a place for individuals to connect on the simplest
level with soil, plants, animals, and people. We grow over 4,000 lbs of
vegetables, most of which are donated to those in need. Our farm also houses
chickens, goats, a greenhouse with koi fish, and a full children’s garden.

Our farm is a community resource, an educational farm, and a working farm. If
you would like to make a visit the Farm outside of a Boulder JCC program,
contact Farmer Becca or Farmer Rachel.

We ask that you keep the following in mind when visiting the farm:

 * Supervise your children and other people you are responsible for at all
   times.
 * Please stay on the walking paths and do not walk in the vegetable beds.
 * Enjoy the animals but do not feed them unless farm staff directs you.
 * You may nibble produce that has “eat me” signs near it. Only take what you
think you will eat, follow directions for harvesting listed on the signs, and
   leave some for others.
 * Please use caution and common sense when exploring the farm. Sometimes farm
tools are left out, holes are dug for irrigation, or other emergent obstacles
will be present. We use electric fences to keep farm animals in and predators
out. The fences are normally on, or “hot.” Please be mindful not to touch the
   electric fences.
 * The Boulder JCC campus is a pet-free zone, we ask that you keep your furry
   friends at home.

What expectations are held in place for volunteers?

We ask volunteers to attend Milk & Honey Farm with a desire to dig into a new
experience, an openness to learning, and a willingness to work together with
other volunteers and our farmers in support of a safe and respectful environment
for everyone- including the animals, plants and land we steward. We expect
volunteers to come to the farm dressed in a way that is appropriate to the
weather and supportive of getting dirty and doing physical work on a farm in a
range of temperatures.  We also ask that volunteers be aware of their own needs
and take breaks for food and water as needed.
