Nude Disco's previous collaboration with Curtis Chip, 2023's 'High Rollers', was
a bona fide club hit, so it's no surprise to find the cut - a sweet and sunny
slab of nu-disco/boogie house fusion - kicking off the pair's new mini-album. It
is followed by title track 'Never Be Lonely', a synthesiser-powered slab of
peak-time instrumental nu-disco rich in glassy-eyed vocal samples and squelchy
bass, and a trio of rather good bonus cuts. Check first the slo-mo disco
sweetness of 'Diana's House', a groove-focused riff on Diana Ross classic 'It's
My House', before admiring the tooled-up '80s soul bounce of 'Hey Scotty' and
the deliciously deep, funky and dreamy 'Lumineaux'.

Tal Fussman's debut EP for Rekids, Definition, is a spiraling journey through
the realms of house and techno. The opening track, "Freedom Defines House", pays
homage to classic NY sounds with its big, drummy beats and spoken word vocal,
reminiscent of Tenaglia and Vasquez back in the day but infused with modern mix.
"The Royal" explores expansive sound design and powerful percussion,
incorporating techno influences with soaring staccato strings and stabs, while
"Pace" further delves into techno territory with leads and rhythmic filtered
hits. Closing the EP is "Even Rome Wasn't Built in a Day", a light yet driving
track adorned with anthemic strings. With previous releases on labels like
COD3QR and Innvervisions, Fussman notches it up Detroit-style for Rekids.

Following last year's Flux & Form release, Deas returns to Planet Rhythm.
"Basel" resounds to the same kind of acid ferocity that defines Wink's "Higher
State of Consciousness", as spiralling 303s are fused with dramatic chord
surges. The title track shares the same sense of drama - while not as frenetic,
it also features wave upon wave of chord builds. "Romance" is a different
proposition; stripped back and repetitive, its steely, percussive rhythm is led
by insistent hi hats. On "Here", he changes tact again. Revolving around a
stab-heavy groove peppered with soulful vocal samples, it reveals a
house-focused side to this talented techno producer.

If you're in the market for summa dat tuff, chugging, tracky shiznit this week
then you could do a lot worse than pick up this latest four-tracker from
ever-checkable UK house veteran Mr Rubs, coming as usual on his own Bandolier
imprint. 'Boogie Down' with its one-line vocal and hefty synth bassline is up
first, followed by the ominous and sonically dense 'Down Town Detroit'. Then
comes the more funked-up 'Mind Your Business', before the EP's completed by the
uncompromising, pulsating 'Projection'. File under "satisfyingly chunky", with
'Boogie Down' the standout to these ears.
