The company provides a marketplace for connecting hosts and guests online or through mobile devices to book spaces and experiences. It completed its Initial Public Offering (“IPO”) in December 2020. The company has two types of customers, hosts and guests. Hosts are people who share their home with guests to provide them a feeling of connection and being at home. Further, hosts fall into two categories — individual and professional. Individual hosts are people who activate their listings like private rooms, primary homes, or vacation homes directly on Airbnb through its website or mobile apps. Professional hosts are those who run property management or hospitality businesses and generally use application programming interfaces to list their properties on Airbnb’s platform. These hosts expand the type of listings available to guests. Guests represent an individual and all co-travellers included on a reservation for a stay for completed check-ins during a given period. Airbnb’s operational geographic regions based on the location of the host’s listing include the United States and International. The company generated total revenues of $5.992 billion in 2021, out of which the United States contributed $2.996 billion and International revenues accounted for $2.995 billion. Further, the company follows two key metrics to measure performance, identify trends, formulate financial projections and accordingly make decisions. The metrics are as follows — Nights and Experiences Booked (300.6 million in 2021) takes into account the sum of the total number of nights booked for stays and the total number of seats booked for experiences, net of cancellations and alterations that occurred in a particular period. Gross Booking Value or GBV ($46.9 billion in 2021) represents bookings on the Airbnb platform in a particular period. It includes host earnings, service fees, cleaning fees, and taxes, net of cancellations and alterations occurred during that period. Growth in GBV highlights the company’s ability to gain and retain hosts and guests. It also represents growth in Nights and Experiences Booked. Copyright 2022 Zacks Investment Research | 10 S Riverside Plaza Suite #1600 | Chicago, IL 60606 At the center of everything we do is a strong commitment to independent research and sharing its profitable discoveries with investors. This dedication to giving investors a trading advantage led to the creation of our proven Zacks Rank stock-rating system. Since 1988 it has more than doubled the S&P 500 with an average gain of +24.51% per year. These returns cover a period from January 1, 1988 through September 12, 2022. Zacks Rank stock-rating system returns are computed monthly based on the beginning of the month and end of the month Zacks Rank stock prices plus any dividends received during that particular month. A simple, equally-weighted average return of all Zacks Rank stocks is calculated to determine the monthly return. The monthly returns are then compounded to arrive at the annual return. Only Zacks Rank stocks included in Zacks hypothetical portfolios at the beginning of each month are included in the return calculations. Zacks Ranks stocks can, and often do, change throughout the month. Certain Zacks Rank stocks for which no month-end price was available, pricing information was not collected, or for certain other reasons have been excluded from these return calculations.
