I had been looking at getting this Lodge loaf pan for several months, I am so
glad I ordered it! I mostly make quick breads like banana bread, zucchini bread,
pumpkin bread, etc. I had been using a Pyrex loaf pan and was happy enough with
that, but I love cast iron and use it so much for my other cookware needs that I
thought I would try it for my breads. First off I love the shape, the sides are
nice and straight, not completely, but way straighter than my Pyrex, so when it
comes to slicing the end pieces do not turn out wedge shaped. The release was
amazing! On the first use the loaf came out perfectly. I did butter the pan
before pouring the batter in, but still, for a first use that is great. The
non-stick nature of cast iron only gets better with use. I included a photo of
my whole wheat zucchini loaf upside down so you can see how even the cooking was
with this pan too. I also love that Lodge is still made in the USA. I love this
pan, I am so glad I got it, and I look forward to a long happy relationship with
it :)

While it may not be the replacement to all of your other thin metal or even
pyrex loaf pans, for me I can pretty much get rid of the pyrex ones and keep
maybe one of the metal ones.
First, I like the sharp edges that you don't get from the glass ones. You also
get a much more even and hot sides so your cornbread or meatloaf will have more
of the crunchy, crusty sides if that's what you like. Size wise I am able to fit
2lb meatloaf in this pan. I used impossible burger meat for the meatloaf in this
pan and it was amazing! The crispy sides were a hit and something I don’t get
from other pans.
Like all of my other Lodge products, the quality is great and the pan came ready
to use after a quick soapy wash. While it is ready to use, nothing makes cast
iron better than a nicely seasoned surface that takes time to develop. The more
you use it the better it gets and soon it will be more non stick then any of the
carcinogenic chemical ones that cover all of the thin metal ones.

Super good weight. Great heat retention. Easy to clean. Do yourself a favor and
make sure you season it before using it. You'll be glad you did because cleanup
will be so much easier. (Look up how to season cast iron. It involves greasing
and heating.) This will give your bread an amazing crust.

I followed the directions on the product insert for seasoning, which just said
to lightly wash/dry and spread oil on the inside . I used it to bake a double
chocolate pumpkin loaf and the loaf baked up beautifully, is cooked even
throughout, released easily from the pan after cooling a bit. I did run a thin
cake spatula around the sides as soon as it came out of the oven. Very easy to
clean up afterward and reoil. I don't use a lot of oil. Works very well.
