MARK O'NEILL AND MOAYED HAMZA

Having worked closely together in the biotech space for a number of years, UCD
alumnus and entrepreneur Mark O'Neill and Dr Moayed Hamza are now on a mission
to build an Irish-headquartered, global pharma company with significant impact,
HAON.



ROMY LYNCH

Romy Lynch is a co-founder of the startup Unflow. Launched in 2019, Unflow’s aim
is to make mobile app development smooth and easy using low-code templates for
screens, new features and updates. She graduated from UCD in 2017 with a BE,
specialising in Mechanical Engineering.



CHIAMAKA ONYINYECHUKWU OFOJIMBA

Chiamaka Onyinyechukwu Ofojimba is a first-class honours graduate of BSc in
Microbiology, who graduated third in her class. She also has a Masters Degree in
Biotechnology and is passionate and committed to the world of science and
scientific breakthroughs.

   Basil Dillon-Malone was an engineering student at University College Dublin
   in the 1960s. In this interview Prof AOIFE AHERN, UCD, Dean of Engineering,
   speaks to Basil about what made his time at UCD special and where his career
   took him after graduating.
   
   The topics also include the role of debating within engineering, the
   increasing number of female engineering students at UCD and the challenges
   that need to be addressed to keep them in the profession after graduation.

   What an incredible evening reconnecting old friends at the UCD College of
   Engineering & Architecture Class of 1989 Reunion! ✨
   
   Held on Saturday, 24 August, the 35th reunion of the Civil Engineering Class
   started the celebrations with a tour of their old classrooms at Earlsfort
   Terrace, followed by drinks in Hartigans to share many fond memories of their
   time in the Civil Engineering Department in the 1980s.
   
   Thank you to Prof Mark Richardson and Prof Tom Casey for attending, and to
   William Crowe for sharing these fantastic photos!

   "As a night student, University College Dublin offered our generation who
   started work in Dublin in the 1960s with our Leaving Certs, the opportunity
   to progress to degree-level education. Our careers would have been very
   different without that opportunity from UCD.
   
   One of my flatmates in Drumcondra was Tom O'Hora and we both studied the
   BComm in the same classes at night. My abiding memory is of our walks from
   Earlsfort Terrace after the evening lectures through the City Centre and on
   to Drumcondra while mulling over what we had just heard." – Padraic White

   "You may not remember all the equations or all the theories that you learned,
   but what does stick with you is that problem-solving ability, that critical
   thinking, a way of approaching a problem, looking at it, and finding a new
   solution." 🚀
   
   UCD College of Engineering & Architecture alumnus Eóin Tuohy (BSc 2015, ME
   2016) recently inspired the Class of 2024 engineering graduates at their
   conferring ceremony on Monday, 2 September.
   
   Eóin reflected on his journey from being a University College Dublin student
   to founding a startup and working on space exploration projects, emphasising
   the importance of a problem-solving mindset gained from an engineering
   education.
   
   He encouraged graduates to pursue their passions, embrace opportunities, and
   explore new experiences, such as traveling, which can lead to unexpected and
   exciting career paths.
   
   He concluded by highlighting the critical role engineers will play in solving
   the world's biggest challenges, urging graduates to approach their future
   with creativity, innovation, and a sense of purpose.

   passionate about, try and be entrepreneurial within an organisation that
   facilitates it and see how it fits. Do, learn and readjust. The business you
   were meant to create may take time to reveal itself." 💼
   
   Having collaborated closely in the biotech sector for years, UCD alumnus and
   entrepreneur Mark O'Neill (BComm 2003, MAcc 2005) and Dr Moayed Hamza (a
   former researcher in the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health
   Systems) are on a mission to build HAON Life Science - a global pharma
   company headquartered in Ireland.
   
   Their journey from University College Dublin to founding HAON Life Science is
   a powerful example of how a strong education and entrepreneurial drive can
   shape the future of healthcare.
