Learn More ABOUT FIBERNET BY PADUCAH POWER SYSTEM In 2004, Paducah Power System connected all its substations with fiber optic cable, creating a 61-mile fiber backbone for our service territory. Besides upgrading our system, we wanted to provide the community with a fiber network that supports economic development, education, and health services. We are the fiber backbone for multiple local internet providers, and we directly serve a few customers that contribute to the betterment of our community, including city government. Local hospitals and schools have used, for years, PPS FiberNet for point-to-point connections that save them thousands of dollars each month and allow them easier download capability. Since 2004, we’ve also built connections with other fiber networks to spread the availability of communications services needed for economic development in western Kentucky. For years, people have begged us to offer internet, and we are now prepared to explore residential service through our pilot fiber-to-the-home project. We have established service in several neighborhoods whose infrastructure, customer base (ie..single-family homes, apartments), and population density will help us to determine the viability of offering internet throughout our entire service territory.
