Entornointeligente.com / The Ministry of Foreign Affairs St. Vincent and the
Grenadines’ very own, Julona Peterson and Lorielle Robertson, have been awarded
Chevening Scholarships for the 2020/2021 year.  According to www.chevening.org,
“Chevening is the UK government’s international awards programme aimed at
developing global leaders.  Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development
Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award –
Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are
personally selected by British embassies and high commissions throughout the
world.” Both future leaders therefore, will receive the opportunity “to develop
professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and
build lasting positive relationships with the UK.”   Julona Peterson’s love for
youth development was fostered from her fifteen plus years as a member of the
SVG Cadet Force, the Red Cross and the International Youth Alliance for Family
Planning (IYAFP).  She firmly believes in “inclusive learning and education,
mental health and gender equality and women’s rights”.  With the aim of
following her goals centered around the provision of inclusive learning
resources and skills to all, she started her business which she calls, “The
PERFECT Project”. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
Affairs, Julonna Peterson, who holds a BSc in Psychology with Sociology from the
University of the West Indies, will pursue an MSc in Developmental Disorders at
Lancaster University.  Lorielle Robertson, is an Economist in the Ministry of
Finance and a member of the LEO Club St. Vincent, where she exercises her
enthusiasm for volunteering and giving back to her community.  She has followed
her passion for development in providing support in academics and professional
pursuits as a mentor.  Convinced about St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ ability
in achieving economic excellence through “youth programmes targeted toward
unique skill building and entrepreneurial exploits”, which she describes as,
“the path to unemployment reduction, poverty alleviation and a thriving
economy”; she has channeled her educational pursuit in completing an MSc. in
Development Economics and Policy at the University of Manchester.  She intends
to apply knowledge gained and the opportunities afforded by the Chevening
network to contribute positively to her country’s development. THE VINCENTIAN
community rallies around these two scholars.
