MISSION

The I-INCE helps people to create a world free from unwanted sound.

VISION

The I-INCE facilitates and stimulates international cooperation and sharing on
control, management and policies of noise and vibration.

 1. The I-INCE represents a world wide platform for the exchange of know how,
new developments, inspiration and to form a lively international community
    on noise and vibration control
 2. The I-INCE acts as a catalyst by bringing parties together and so stimulate
    new developments
 3. The I-INCE stimulates the access of everybody to noise and vibration control
    technology
 4. The I-INCE is an active partner in the struggle to suppress unwanted sound

WELCOME

The International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE) was founded in
1974. It is a worldwide consortium of organizations concerned with noise
control, acoustics and vibration. The primary focus of the Institute is on
unwanted sounds and on vibrations producing such sounds when transduced. I-INCE
is the sponsor of the INTER-NOISE Series of International Congresses on Noise
Control Engineering held annually in leading cities of the world. I-INCE also
co-sponsors symposia on specialized topics within the I-INCE field of interest.
The quarterly magazine Noise/News International is jointly published by I-INCE
and the Institute of Noise Control Engineering of the USA (INCE/USA). I-INCE
instituted a program to undertake technical initiatives on critically-important
issues of international concern within the I-INCE field of interest. This
initiative has resulted in several reports and a number of active Technical
Study Groups.

HOSTING AN INTER-NOISE CONGRESS

To host an INTER-NOISE Congress on behalf of I-INCE, the proposal to host the
Congress must come from an I-INCE Member Society. A list of Member Societies is
found here. Hosting a Congress has to follow established rules, contact an
I-INCE Member Society in your region for a copy of the latest rules.

PROGRAMS FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

I-INCE actively promotes participation by young noise control professionals.
I-INCE has allocated funds to support between ten and twelve Young Scientists
Conference Attendance Grants (YS Grants) to assist young scientists/engineers in
attending the I-INCE sponsored International Congresses on Noise Control
Engineering. The notification of this prestigious YS Grant may be used to obtain
additional funding from other sources. In order to meet the expanding needs of
the field of noise control engineering, I-INCE has now also established a
Symposium Series. Finally, I-INCE is assuming leadership role in formulating
global noise policies; this includes an ongoing collaboration with CAETS
(International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences).

I-INCE LECTURE SERIES

I-INCE started the distinguished I-INCE lecture series effective 2017. This
involves selection of a plenary speaker at each inter-noise (in consultation
with the congress organizers) and then to disseminate the lecture video on a
topic that may appeal to a wider audience.

 * I-INCE Distinguished Lecture (2018) on Sound Quality
 * I-INCE Distinguished Lecture (2017) on Tire Noise and Quiet Roads
 * Lecture on Flow Induced Noise & Vibration (2017)

More Details on these lectures is available here.

SPONSORSHIP OF I-INCE SYMPOSIA ON NOISE CONTROL ENGINEERING

Symposium organizers can apply for a grant from 1500 to 5000 Euros by submitting
a proposal for 2020 symposium by April 30, 2020. See the Technical Activities
page for details and examples of prior symposia.

2017 I-INCE SYMPOSIUM ON FLOW INDUCED NOISE & VIBRATION (PENN STATE UNIV.)

The I-INCE Symposium on Flow Induced Noise and Vibration Issues and Aspects
(FLINOIVA II) was held on 27-28 April 2017 at the Pennsylvania State University
(USA). Invited speakers gave talks on structural excitation by turbulent flows,
including turbulent boundary layers, ingested turbulence, free and impinging
jets, and other turbulent shear layers. Structural response, including
vibration, stress, and sound re-radiation were of particular interest. This
symposium has been organized by Steve Hambric and Amanda Hanford. Details are
available at the symposium website.
