📐 METHODOLOGY

This Synthesis Report is the main publication of the 6th Assessment cycle of the
IPCC, which started in 2016. It draws on the reports of the three Working Groups
of the IPCC : Physical Science Basis of Climate Change (WGI, August 2021),
Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability (WGII, Feb. 2022) and
Mitigation of Climate Change (WGIII, April 2022), as well as on the three
Special Reports on Global Warming of 1.5°C (2018), on Climate Change and Land
(2019), and on the Ocean and the Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (2019).


🔎 KEY TAKEAWAYS

The Synthesis Report (SYR) of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) is divided
into three sections:

 * Section A covers the current status and trends of climate change. Despite
   policy efforts to mitigate GHG, current actions are insufficient to meet
   climate goals.
 * Section B provides a long-term assessment of climate change to 2100 and
   beyond. Continued greenhouse gas emissions intensify risks and hazards, but
   rapid reductions can slow atmospheric changes. As temperatures increase,
   adaptation options weaken. Net zero CO2 emissions are needed to limit
   warming.
 * Section C assesses opportunities for scaling up effective action which should
   apply immediate long-term measures for mitigation. Equity, social justice,
   and just transition processes can facilitate climate action.

💡 The Report summarizes the latest scientific literature on climate change
since 2014.

Using a multiple analytical frameworks which highlights the interaction of the
challenges, it recognizes the interdependence of climate, ecosystems,
biodiversity, and human societies.  

Published in March 2023, it also informs the 2023 Global Stocktake of the Paris
Agreement organized during COP28
