Hark! Last night we continued our festivities with our client Christmas
Drinks Special at the fantastic Museum of Brands in London’s Notting Hill.
After two years of socially distanced soirees, we chose a truly fun and
special venue for us branding and culture vultures. We had a nostaligic trip
down brand memory lane via the Musuem’s ‘Time Tunnel’. And also got to see

It's our fifth day of Meet Our Linguists! Who do we have today? Meet Zora.
Here is what she had to say about her life as a translator so far. Q. What
languages do you speak? A. Czech is my mother tongue. Q. How did you get into
the translation industry? A. By accident - I studied economics and languages
and hoped to get into the travel industry. But in the early 90s in Prague
someone just asked if I could help with an international project. So my first
and perhaps the biggest project so far (in volume AND size) was the Dancing
Building in Prague. I even met Frank Gehry! Q. What has been your most
favourite translation project to date? A. Impossible to pick one, but perhaps
an e-learning programme for Ecco Shoes, when I found myself “correcting”
their shoe display on my research visit to one of their shops! Q. And your
worst? A. Any apps where I cannot see the words in context. Q. Why do you
love being a translator? A. I am constantly learning something new, and I
like linguistic challenges. Some may say that it is a lonely profession, but
not if you work with such a great team like Comtec. I get a lot of positive
energy from them. Q. What is it like working for Comtec Translations? A. Good
communication is something I greatly value as a translator. I always get a
quick and personal response to any queries and everyone is helpful, polite
and very supportive, regardless of the complexity of the task we are working
on. This surely reflects in the quality of the translation. Thank you Zora,

It's day four of MEET OUR LINGUISTS! Today, meet Helen 😀and hear about her
translator journey so far. Q. What languages do you speak? A. Dutch, French,
German, Spanish and Welsh. Q. How did you get into the translation industry?
A. I went freelance after working in the City of London for a French bank. Q.
What has been your most favourite translation project to date? A. My
favourite has been a project explaining the complexities of the Dutch pension
system to English readers. Q. And your worst? A. In the 1990s customers
sometimes sent hundreds of pages of faxes - even without checking you were
available first! Q. Why do you love being a translator? A. I love the contact
with different European cultures and different sectors of business. Q. What
is it like working for Comtec Translations? A. From my perspective, Comtec’s
key strength is that it understands the sectors in which its customers
operate. It engages with industry and commerce in a way that few language
service providers do. This means that when you supply work to Comtec, you

MEET OUR LINGUISTS! Today, meet Agnieszka, we put some questions to her... Q.
What languages do you speak? A. I translate from English and French into
Polish. I used to learn German, which proved most useful, when I was buying a
car in Germany. Recently, I have started studying Spanish and ¡me gusta
mucho! Q. How did you get into the translation industry? A. Languages have
always been my passion, so I studied applied linguistics to become a
translator. After graduation, I worked as an in-house translator at the
European Parliament and at the National Bank of Poland. Later, I developed my
own client base. Q. What has been your most favourite translation project to
date? A. One of my favourite projects was an interactive course on how to
handle change. I’ve found it inspiring during many changes in my life. This
year, I was happy to support the translation of educational app Antura for
Ukrainian children learning to read in Polish. Q. And your worst? A. I enjoy
all the projects I work on! The worst project was the one I declined on ethic
grounds and it was a specification for a slaughterhouse. Q. Why do you love
being a translator? A. I love learning foreign languages as a way of
accessing different cultures and discovering people’s mentality, values and
the way of living in other countries. As a translator, you need to use both
creativity and logic to make this foreign reality accessible to the speakers
of your native language. What I love, is bridging this gap. Q. What is it
like working for Comtec Translations? A. I have worked with Comtec for over
five years now. Their friendly and professional team is a pleasure to
communicate with. I was particularly impressed with the way a team of
linguists was trained to fully understand the needs of a Client for a
long-term project. I value my cooperation with Comtec for our shared goal: to

MEET OUR LINGUISTS! Over the next few days we are going to introduce you to
some of our wonderful linguists and translators. Today, meet UIrike 😁 Q.
What languages do you speak? A. German (native) and English. Q. How did you
get into the translation industry? A. I moved from the US to the UK and
could not get a job in my previous field. Translation seemed the
natural choice, especially when we started a family. Q. What has been your
most favourite translation project to date? A. I had a funny one years ago -
an advertisement project for Spanx shapewear. It was very challenging and
creative - and the Google ads afterwards were quite hilarious. Q. And your
worst? A. Possibly a guideline for wound treatments in the genital area. The
images scarred me for quite a while. Q. What is it like working for Comtec
Translations? A. Not many agencies try to meet their linguists in person but
to Comtec this personal contact is truly important. Hence, I know “my”
project managers and communication is easy. Their instructions are always
clear, issues are resolved swiftly, and asking questions is encouraged rather
