Buy a licence WHERE AND WHEN YOU NEED A LICENCE Do students need a TV Licence? You need to be covered by a TV Licence if you live in: Student halls – you’ll need to be covered by a licence to watch TV in your room. House or flat share with separate tenancy agreement – you’ll need to be covered by your own licence. Property with joint tenancy – you’ll need one licence to cover the whole place. You can enjoy: 400+ TV channels as they’re being broadcast * All the free-to-view channels like ITV, Channel 4, Dave and Sky One. * Live TV that you watch on any satellite packages or streaming services you might pay for, like Virgin Media, Amazon Prime Video and Now TV. * Plus, everything on BBC iPlayer. And you can watch it all on any device. Buy a licence PAY IN A WAY THAT SUITS YOUR CASH FLOW Pay in one go You’ll make a single payment of £159 every 12 months. Pay every three months You’ll make four payments of £41 (includes a £1.25 charge) over the year. Pay monthly You’ll spread the cost of your first TV Licence by paying £26.50 a month for six months. After that, you’ll pay £13.25 a month. You can pay by Direct Debit, credit or debit card It’s easy to set up a Direct Debit. You’ll need your account number and sort code to hand. GET A REFUND IF YOU MOVE OUT EARLY However you pay for your licence, you could get a part-refund if you live in student accommodation for less than 12 months.
