OUR SERVICES

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Calm State Psychology was established with the aim of delivering high level,
evidence-based psychological treatment for adults and adolescents. Working
collaboratively with you, we tailor treatment to meet your needs and goals.

In the first session we conduct an in-depth assessment and help you clarify your
goals for therapy. This helps us plan the treatment phase.

During treatment we engage in a collaborative process of self-discovery and
exploration of social and personal experiences, thoughts and feelings, through
which we can help you initiate change and healing. Together, we help guide you
to discover insights into your psychological functioning to live a more
authentic and positive life.

We draw on elements of the following evidence-based therapies:

 * Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
 * Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
 * Mindfulness
 * Schema Therapy
 * Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
 * Motivational Interviewing
 * Attachment Informed Therapy
 * Trauma Focussed Therapy
 * Gottman Method Relationship Therapy

ADHD:

Our psychologists can provide a screening test for ADHD for the purpose of
helping with strategies, support and treating co-morbidities.

If you are wanting to try medication for ADHD, you will need to talk to your GP
about a referral to a psychiatrist for a comprehensive assessment.

RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

We also have psychologists trained in Gottman Relationship Therapy who are able
to provide strategies to help you deepen your understanding of each other, learn
communication and conflict management skills, and deepen your friendship,
connection and emotional intimacy. Gottman Therapy also offers a structured way
to navigate the road to healing relationships impacted by infidelity, addiction,
and trauma.

The initial session involves all partners in attendance, where the clinician
will conduct an overall assessment and relationship checkup. Relationship goals
for therapy will be discussed. Following this session, each partner attends a
separate session whereby family history, and individual issues and goals are
further clarified. For some individuals with significant mental health issues,
separate therapy with another clinician may be recommended. Your choice will
always be respected. Following individual sessions, therapy sessions begin with
all partners present each session. Please note that the number of treatment
sessions is dependent on therapeutic goals.

ASSESSMENTS AND REPORTS

We do not conduct formal assessments (e.g. forensic, intellectual, or cognitive
assessments), or provide diagnostic, formal or third party reports.

We are also unable to provide letters for court purposes or to other third
parties (e.g. insurance companies, Centrelink, etc.).

Our focus is providing therapy to individuals, couples and families and we don’t
have the capacity to additionally write letters or reports. We have also found
that providing reports and letters has the potential to interfere with our
ability to provide neutral and supportive therapy services.
