JULIETA ART DOLL & HOW I CREATED HER

Hello, my name is Julieta, I am an art doll, created with fabrics, my body is of
new cotton fabric and my clothes are recycled, my hair is white because I love
representing what is pure inside me with it but I am still jung!  I love spring
for
I was born in the first days of it, in México city, were I was made, it´s
already spring!

My mom loves trying new techniques with each of her daughters, she couldn´t have
any children so I know each of her doll daughters are special to her and so she
dedicates
a lot of effort and learning with each.  Here is a bit of how I was created, I´m
sure mom
will share more in upcoming posts!

My face was attached to my body after needle sculpting my face.

Ideas to cover my head with some hair and a band but I told her I
wanted some flowers!

After mom gave me a face with warm colors, I am waiting here
patiently and excited to see what my hair will look like!

My dress is made of two pieces, one small blouse and one large skirt,
all in flowers like I wanted!

We went to the garden to pick up some cotton flowers for me!

VISUAL RECAP!

And here I am, all ready to go visit your home!  Mom gave me
a bag to bring some books and a journal for my travels and added lots of flowers
to my head and hand which I love!

I have cute little shorts and boots for my delicate feet, they can
be removed but I prefer to have them on.

I´m ready for my travel to stay with you! You can pick me up at the train
station
or I can come to your home by myself, you just gotta let me know were it is in
the shop
I hope to see you soon and thank you for visiting, come back soon!

THE RETURN OF HANDS AND HEART

Hello! It´s been a while I know but I am ready to share new content that I hope
it inspires you, this time with a new artjournal page that I created for the new
year but it can be used for any ocassion though.

Before we get started I want to say a few things.  As many of you, I´ve been in
shock with what is happening in the world and secluded at home, first of course
in wonder of what was going to happen and doing a lot of reflexion and learning
from others what was going to be our new way of living.

Since all this started, two years have passed, I thought of coming back earlier
but instead I decided I should take this time for myself and learn a few things
I wanted since a long time before all this.

How many times do we say -I´ll do it later- and never take on it?  The time
never comes but the pandemic gave us that, among other things of course, a lot
of time to recapitulate about what we have done and how our lives had been, at
least to me, it is crucial that we ask this questions and take perspective and
then try to make our lives better and use what ever time we have to improve our
lives and maybe other´s as well.

Also, this was a perfect time to learn what we wanted, read those books that
have been waiting in the pile, make those cookies you love, watch a lot of
videos and Netflix and it was a good opportunity to use this to some kind of
renovation.

I went back to my textile studies that I left aside a long time ago, I also kept
on studying ilustration and painting of course, I also started making new fabric
dolls and try to make them better and making better clothing and also took on
embroidery, two years is a lot of time, I went out a few times to visit my
family but that´s all and now ´ve learned that is crucial that we take our time
more seriously and learn to use it better, sadly they don´t teach you that in
school, one has to be alert and recognize what is missing in your life and apply
it.

LET´S TAKE ON THIS NEW ARTJOURNAL PAGE!

This page was used for my new year´s kind of resolutions or things to work on, I
love words and colors and just being creative but you can use this as an
inspiration for any kind of ideas you may have.

DO YOU NEED HELP WITH SOME IDEAS? HERE ARE A FEW:

What you dream about when you are awake or asleep or which are your favorite
things in the world, name ten of your favorite words, what are your favorite
meals or simply use it for what happened in your day.  I used it for what I
wanted for this year, some guidelines into what I will direct my energies and a
few words I like, there is more than what I could fit in this page so maybe I´ll
do a second page next!

BRING OUT YOUR FAVORITE COLORS!

Ok, here is a bit of how it started, a few colors splashed here and there, I
knew I wanted some frames for different ideas so I started to paint boxes in
different sizes and colors, I used every color I liked, no particular plans on
this, just let it all flow... like one of my words in the page.

Then I started to add my first ideas as images, this page wasn´t created in a
day, it took me like a week,  I was in my holidays so I had plenty of time, you
can do as much as you can in one day, maybe in the mornings and take a break,
then rested, come back to it the next day, it will be fresh and new ideas will
pop, each day offers new momentums and so you can add new colors, words and
images that come to you slowly and playfully.

I tried to be free, this also shows in my page as words, to be free in your
artwork means to be able to express what is in you and what is unique in you so
allow it. Also, this will require that you keep experimenting with colors and
learn what you like or not, to me, experimenting is the only true way to learn
but that doesn´t take away the fun, it adds to it.

In here my page has evolved a bit more, I added more colors on top of what I
already had created, bits of contrasts here and there and notice how one is free
to keep changing and trying things...

Next, notice how I didn´t fit the word inside the box, this to me,  is also part
of the meaning of the word, this is my page and I flow braking the ¨rules¨ as an
artist, I give myself permission to brake the rules of what I am supposed to do
right and sometimes I love the results even more.

Next I started to use my white pen to add some accents and contrasts from what
was bellow and this to me, makes it look like sparkles in the sky! I used black
first in some areas too but the white made it all come together and super fun!

I liked the idea of adding words inside the big black word, I wrote about what
it means to me to flow, journaling gives a great opportunity to brake down in
deep what the words mean, to me is delicious to dig deep into the meaning of
words, one learns more and this is a great way to add to your journaling!

Did you enjoy this? I really hope so!  Have a cup of your favorite beverage, hot
or cold depending on were you live and gather your art tools to have some fun
time in the studio, it´s super relaxing and fun!

If you ever want to share with me your page, you may send me an email or share
it on my facebook page, links are in the column up here!

By the way, happy new year!  a bit late I know but it´s my hope that we all are
better this year, may all things start to be better for you and yours and for
the world and nature. Much love... Moni.

ART JOURNAL WORKSHOP

I love sharing my ideas and what I find in my creative investigations,
I believe it´s part of my soul calling or purpose!  Most of the time I play
with those ideas once or twice and then move to the next find, that is
why I should share them, for others to enjoy of them and play with them.

I am celebrating 1000 followers on my Instagram with this workshop,
I hope you enjoy it!

I once learned about the citrasolve and magazines to create beautiful new
backgrounds from Misty Mawn, one of my favorite artists, I couldn´t find
the liquid in my country so I couldn´t try the lesson at that time but having
a little free time for playing in the studio these days gave me the idea of
using
sandpaper to remove the background of a page and use it for my art journal.

I used soft sandpaper, a very fine grade so I wouldn´t break the paper.

I randomly looked for a page that would click with me, I haven´t buy any
magazines for a very long time so I used one that has been on my bookshelf
for some time just waiting to be called.

This gave me the idea of using it to write about the books I am reading now
so I loved it!  I glued the page with gloss medium, you can use matte
medium or even some regular white glue!

Here is my page glued after sanding the background out! I used the
roller to flatten the page, many air bubbles want to stay there! ^_^

A close up on the page, see the air bubbles?
I am happy with some living there :D

Then I added transparent guesso for I wanted to draw and write on the page.

I added some paint after having some ideas on what I wanted, you can always
change your mind about the design, the colors or else!

This is my final result after playing with colors and my charcoal pencil,
between sips of soft coffee and writing on some other journal, the idea of
what you plant in your mind through what you read and watch on tv or
movies came to me, it is important to have a filter for it all goes into
your subconscious!

Learning to have fun with your artwork is important, what you learn
from it becomes part of you and you take it to other kinds of work, it
helps you evolve and playing time is nurturing and self love so I really
encourage it!

I hope you try these ideas and have fun with them, it´s a great experience
to be able to share with you and thank you to all those who write to me and
share a bit about you, that is what the internet is for, connecting!

Much love and gratitude!

Materials list:
soft sandpaper with a very fine grade
Art journal for mixed media
gloss or matte medium
brushes
paints, choose three or four colors
I used:
 burnt umber
titanium white
cobalt blue
neutral grey
orange

HOLA 2019!

Hola new year! So many ideas for you and so happy to live through you
at this special time in human history!  It´s wonderful to be part of you and
I thank you for what you allow me to be, say and do through you!

As usual, I am trying to evolve, to grow, to reach higher.
This time I am doing it by surrendering to my higher guidance,
I always think I am doing it just to learn that I can stretch a bit
more and that it never ends, there is always more to surrender,
more to grow, to observe and learn.

New work from my new cycle, I´ve been doing this since my birthday,
December 26th if you are interested or if you want to send me a gift! :D

Some people want me to explain my work to them, the meaning of each painting,
no, I am sorry, I don´t do that, the message is for you to receive in private, I
don´t
want to contaminate you with my ideas, be open to them and listen to what it
has
for you.

Follow my Instagram for more photos!

Happy new year and may God bless you!
Much Love form Hands and Heart!

ON BEING A SELF TAUGHT ARTIST.

What it means to be a self taught artist?

Being and doing your thing sometimes feels like you could be a failure,
no one is there to tell you you are doing it well or wrong or how could it be
done
better, you are just guided by your instincts and experience.

And there is that little voice inside asking, is that good enough?

After years of being one of the so called self taught artist,
I´ve learned that fear and doubt only means you
don´t trust your inner guidance and what you have learned already.

Doubt is the main problem when you feel you are
not enough or that you haven´t get to were you should or that
others are better than you. I would add that we are expecting from
the world the applause we think we should be getting!

The real gain that walking your own path could give, is knowledge.
The gains of true knowledge are silent.

Everybody in every study field is self taught, either you are alone in your
home or in a class at school, you are the only one grabbing what you need at
this moment for your journey, you are the one who decides what and how to
use it, if it goes deep or superficial, depends on you alone, but we can blame
it on talent, our parents, not having the money or time, etc...
When we do so, we are only hiding in the comfort place we´ve been for
years ´cause effort has a price we are still not willing to pay.

Schools help but are not the teacher, you are.
"When the student is ready the teacher will appear"
When you are ready to learn something, you will teach your self that,
you will pay more attention to that until you learn it. Or you will find
the perfect situation to help you see the needed lesson for this
applies to life as well.

When you´ve learned a certain thing, it doesn´t mean you are better than
the rest, the proof is that anyone can learn the same thing and even get better
than you, we see in the world many proofs of that, to know it and accept it
makes us humble, knowledge is infinite, it only stops growing when
you stop but keeps growing when you add more to it.

Learn from all, knowledge is universal, learn from people, form movies, from
a song, books, from your deep meditations, knowledge does not belong to a single
person, it is of who wants to tap in to it, don´t take it personal if someone
"steals"
your ideas, they are not yours alone or else no one could ever know that same
thing ever again anymore.  That is not what we can see in the history of the
world.

Different people in different times of history have "discovered" the same things
claiming it´s their inventions, math is not an invention, it´s only a discovery
and part of who we are, that goes for everything we can call knowledge,
it´s only a discovery of the universal truths and you would be more honest
and happier if you accept this.

I´ve been doing an experiment at my studio, I am always trying to learn new
things by trying them, I made studies of other artist I like, I even took some
online workshops with some, painted a lot of different styles using them as
inspiration to teach my self new paths, new ways of doing things with paint
and ideas, one painting can be a great teacher if you dig it and discover their
hidden teachings.

Don´t be afraid to make studies of other artists so you can learn but know
that this process can take a while to be absorbed, being an artist is not making
big
hits of art that will be in the number one charts lists as the best painting of
the
moment, being an artist means that you are in a constant learning path
and
that
you
love it,
the struggles, the hard days, the challenges are only the way of life of the
artist,
it´s how life is helping you improve and grow, if you overcome those
challenges, you undoubtedly grow, that is the true gain, not the applause
of the world, that doesn´t help you at all to grow, it only feeds your sweet
indulged ego and it helps for a while but is not what makes us grow.

And yes, anyone can grow if they put the effort it takes.

Why would you stay in the comfort of the known when
you can discover the unknown?

As they say, no pain, no gain but I say also play!

Work hard but make sure you are enjoying it, it is exciting to have a
goal and helps us have a direction but remember to enjoy the process and
play a lot, playing also teaches if you look for the lessons, they are
everywhere!

Is my goal to paint better portraits but some are a huge challenge, it is
hard work and one that requires a deep concentration and no playing so I
help my self rest from them by having playful time with my paints too and so
I use my art journal or whatever paper I find to paint fun stuff or just
express
my self, this helps me keep going with the more elaborated works, those give
me much joy when they are done and hanging in a wall, they remind me about
my progress and how I´ve been disciplined which is my reward, that´s why
I paint them, to see my self in those paintings, how I went over laziness, how
I made time and gave effort, how I challenged my self and how I went for more.

Never settle.  You deserve to be more.

Your path is unique and beautiful, dare to walk it.

*All works are done with acrylics on paper.

Now I leave you with some tips that have helped me grow and might help you too,
these may be used in other areas of life as well:

Have a goal
Use discipline to get there
Combine discipline with playful time
Work and rest

Have a goal:  What do you want or would like to achieve?
Use this to develop a plan on how and when.

Use discipline to get there:  Keep adding to it, a little every day or every
two days or three days but keep adding to it, make discipline a habit.

Combine discipline with playful time:  Not every day has to be hard work,
add playful time to your schedule, some days just play and rest, read or
take a walk, cook or just breath while watching the sunset, those things
also inspire us and teach us in many ways.

Work and rest:  I try to work early in the mornings, I am super fresh and rested
and excited to achieve my goal, I work a few hours then rest or change into
play mode, then I come back to the discipline or work refreshed again, this way
it doesn´t feel so heavy.

Add your own tips...

Thank you for being here,
I hope this helps you some how in your
own journey.
