Fueled by his relentless engineering mind, Matt felt he could design a guitar that would produce a deeper, richer tone. After taking over the McPherson brand from his father in the late 1990’s, Matt pioneered a new acoustic guitar design unlike any other. The combination of his innovative bracing system, cantilevered neck, and an offset sound hole has produced world-class instruments with unparalleled clarity and sustain. Learn More FEATURED BUILDS East Indian Rosewood East Indian Rosewood & California Redwood The East Indian and California Redwood build is a McPherson Classic. The warm overtones of the Redwood top combine perfectly with the deep tonal coloration of the rosewood, resulting in a perfect pairing for a light fingerstyle touch. Macassar Ebony Macassar Ebony & Engelmann Spruce This combination is a favorite among many happy McPherson owners. Macassar Ebony has a deep yet focused low end. When paired with the warmer of the spruce tops, it creates an inspiring playing experience. This is a versatile combination great for both fingerstyle and strumming. Cocobolo Cocobolo & Bearclaw Sitka Cocobolo is a very coveted tonewood, producing a very clean yet full lower register. With a Bearclaw Sitka top, this is a visually striking build, with distinct note to note separation. SIGNATURE INNOVATIONS SIGNATURE INNOVATIONS OFFSET SOUND HOLE Believing that traditional acoustics could be innovated, McPherson introduced a revolutionary Offset Soundhole Technology. The placement of the sound hole allows for a lengthened and uninterrupted soundboard, amplifying vibration in the center of the guitar top. This also produces more volume and clarity in the ears of the player. Watch Video SIGNATURE INNOVATIONS CANTILEVERED NECK Every McPherson guitar features a Cantilevered Neck, which is not glued or connected to the top of the guitar, but instead floats above it. This design allows the soundboard area underneath the fretboard to vibrate freely, which increases the sustain of the guitar. Watch Video SIGNATURE INNOVATIONS OVERPASS / UNDERPASS BRACING McPherson’s unique Overpass/Underpass Bracing System creates a larger, more even space for the top to vibrate. The soundboard’s braces cross each other but never touch or inhibit vibration. This frees the braces to vibrate independently while still lending structural support and maximizing soundboard vibration. Watch Video SIGNATURE INNOVATIONS CARBON REINFORCED NECK The McPherson Carbon Reinforced Neck is praised for its incredible strength and stability and is built around the largest carbon fiber truss rod ever used on a guitar.
