PLASTIC CREDITS

What is a plastic footprint, and how can it be taken responsibility of?

Every company that uses plastic in its products has an environmental Plastic
Footprint.

To take responsibility of it, TONTOTON will rescue an equal weight of Ocean
Bound Plastic from land sources, and convert it into Alternative Fuels and Raw
Materials (AFRM), preventing the possibility of it ever becoming marine litter.
Companies can support such project that provides stable income to vulnerable
local communities while taking charge of their own clean environment.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT

A circular economy that improves your environmental and social impact

All rescued orphan plastics are transferred to the co-processing treatment
facility to be used as energy for cement kilns.

This creates a new market for low-value plastics and provides support for
waste-pickers communities. The co-processing treatment monitors CO2 emissions
and is supervised 24/7.

Vietnam is the 4th largest contributor to ocean plastic pollution globally, with
an estimated 2,500 tons of plastic waste
discharged into the environment daily.

Vulnerable coastal communities in Cambodia suffer from thick layers of plastic
waste with limited solution and daily resource to solve the problem.

Verification of your company’s involvement and its contribution

TONTOTON works under the strict standard of the Ocean-Bound Plastic
Certification Scheme. It defines what OBP is, where it can be collected from and
provides ethical and social guidelines.

Moreover,  a 3rd party control body will verify the amount of the collected OBP.

FAQ

What is orphan plastic?

Single-use plastic is too light, and its value too low to be collected and
recycled. Therefore, it has no market value, making it ‘orphan plastic’ that is
more likely to become ocean bound plastic polluting our environment.

Can you collect everything?

No. Our certification requires us to be very attentive with our collections. TTT
collects Ocean Bound plastic (OBP) with a focus on low value and non-recyclable
plastic waste in poor waste management areas. We call it ‘Orphan Plastic’. We
are allowed to pick all kinds of Plastics made from petroleum and biosourced but
this excludes any other non-Plastic wastes: All types of metal, Wood, Food,
Glass, Non Plastic, Tetrapack, Non-Plastic fiber made textiles, Dirt, Stones,
Concrete Plaster or equivalent, Sand, Mud… etc 

Under which protocol and guidelines does TTT operate?

TTT is the first plastic neutralizing program that works and collaborates with
the Ocean Bound Plastic Certification Scheme (www.obpcert.org) and Zero Plastic
Oceans (zeroplasticoceans.org) adhering to the ocean-bound plastic protocols.

The protocols define what OBP is, plastic from which sources will be considered
as OBP, how to control and supervise waste pickers and collecting groups, and
more.
