HOW TO FACTORY RESET WINDOWS 11 (2-STEP PROCESS)

Performing a factory reset on Windows 11 is useful if you’ve been experiencing
problems with your computer. It will essentially reset your PC so that it
reverts back to the same state it was in when it rolled off the assembly line,
and give Windows a fresh start. 

The longer you use your Windows 11 machine, the more files and programs
accumulate, taking up space and making your computer work harder (and often
slower). After you reset your PC, use an app like CCleaner for PC to keep it
clear of clutter. 

If you have an HDD (as opposed to an SSD) and want to wipe your hard drive
because you’re giving away, recycling, or selling your PC, use our Drive Wiper

Before we show you how to factory reset Windows 11, you should back up any files
and programs you want to keep or your entire hard drive if you want to keep it
all. That’s why we’re going to show you a two-step process: 1) back up your
files, then 2) refresh Windows 11. If you don’t want to keep anything from your
PC, you can skip to the factory reset instructions. 


HOW TO BACK UP YOUR FILES AND HARD DRIVE

It’s a good idea to back up your computer regularly in case something happens to
it. Losing photos, files, and important documents is a huge hassle and sometimes
you can’t get them back. 

Using a cloud-based service like Google Drive or OneDrive is great for photos
and uploading files on a regular basis because they can do this automatically
for you. This way, you can clear large files off your computer, saving space and
keeping it running smoother too. You can also use them quickly to back up
specific files before a factory reset. Otherwise, use your preferred method or
cloud-based storage service. 


HOW TO BACK UP YOUR ENTIRE DRIVE ON WINDOWS 11

 1. Launch ‘Control panel.’
 2. Click on ‘Back up and Restore (Windows 7).’ (Don’t mind it saying Windows 7
    here - Microsoft planned to replace this feature with the File History
    system in Windows 10 but ended up with both and it still remains in Windows
    11).
    
    
    
    
 3. Click on ‘Create a system image’ in the left pane.
    
    
    
    
 4. Under ‘Where do you want to save the backup?’ choose your backup
    destination.
    
    
    
    
 5. Click ‘Start Backup’.


HOW TO FACTORY RESET A WINDOWS 11 PC

Now that you’ve backed up everything you need, you’re ready to perform your
Windows 11 factory reset.

How to factory reset a PC on Windows 11:

 1. Open ‘Settings’, then go to ‘System’ on the left and scroll down to
    ‘Recovery’.
    
    
    
    
 2. Click on ‘Reset PC’.
 3. A new popup box will appear and you can choose to keep your files or remove
    everything (choose this option if you’re giving away, recycling, or selling
    your PC).
    
    
    
    
 4. Next, you’ll get the option to reinstall Windows via a Cloud download (will
    not come with the same configuration as the manufacturer) or reinstall
    Windows from your device (will restore drivers, settings, etc.) and click
    ‘Next.’
 5. You may receive some additional warning messages on your screen depending on
    whether you chose to keep your files or not. Check the messages and click on
    ‘Reset’ when you’re sure you want to start the process.

Once your computer has been reset you should check that all your files are there
if you chose to keep them or that they have been wiped if you want them
cleared.
