DISCOVER WHO AM I

What’s my real name? what am I doing for work? how old am I? How do I spend my
spare time?

The original image used for my highly stylized avatar.

Dear visitor, welcome to my About page. My real name is JF Martin, but I prefer
to be called Numeric Citizen, my content creator’s name on the web. Consider it
my pen name (learn why I'm using this name).

I have been an IT (Information Technologies) professional since the early
nineties (Celebrating 30 Years in IT). I'm 56; I'm probably getting old, I know.
I think I have ten more years left as a pro. My hobbies are many, but writing is
the one that’s taking up much of my spare time. I spend about twenty hours a
week writing and publishing (fully documented here). Why you might ask? Get the
answer in “I read, I learn, I write, I Share.”

LEARN ABOUT MY PASSIONS & INTERESTS

I probably have too many passions in my life. They are the source of my
creativity.

As explained in this post, I write about my passions which revolve around Apple,
photography, privacy protection and climate change. But I'm also getting more
and more interested with AI and the impact on society. In fact, I’m generally
curious about many things and I can be easily in awe for simple things.

For more than 40 years, Apple played a special role in my life. In this article,
I explain in detail. “The Roots of My Passion for Apple - Numeric Citizen Blog”.

The Roots of My Passion for Apple
Apple has a special place in my life because of my passion for the company, its
history and most importantly because I share the same values.

I do write more personal content from time to time. This is the closest you’ll

then, what else? Not much will survive me, I’m afraid.

world.numericcitizen.io/my-personal-guiding-principles-for-AI
Data is Outdated
world.numericcitizen.io/my-personal-guiding-principles-for-AI

GOALS FOR 2024

1️⃣ Move out of Smugmug - Completed

My desire to put words against images is growing on me. For this, Smugmug is not
a good fit, Exposure is. But Pixelfed is even better! ⋅ Table

2️⃣ Move out of Adobe Lightroom - Completed

I feel trapped into Adobe’s photography subscription. I want more control. I
want to save money.

3️⃣ Spend more time doing photography - In Progress

I want to spend more time with visual creativity for a better balance with
written words.

4️⃣ Reduce monthly subscription costs - In Progress

Take out non-essential subscriptions off my subscriptions list. Money saved so
far: $ 0.00

5️⃣ Resist the urge to join Threads - In Progress

Threads is probably as toxic as Instagram or Twitter. It will eventually have
ads. We need to stop feeding algorithm training on us.

6️⃣ Copy content from Meta blog on Craft to Micro.blog - In Progress

The idea is to create a Micro.blog hosted version of my meta blog that was
initially started on Blot, then migrated to Craft-hosted version.

7️⃣ Migrate my passwords from 1Password to Apple’s Keychain - In progress

With the upcoming release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, Apple FINALLY
released Passwords, a dedicated password management solution.

PAST ACHIEVED GOALS

*️⃣ Reduce & Focus - 100% Completed

I need to remove things that I don’t use anymore or don’t bring value to my
creative workflow. Everything against my values should be dropped off my digital
landscape. ⋅ Table

*️⃣ Move out of WordPress - 100% Completed

I need to save costs. WordPress was great but I’m looking for simplicity.
Merging with Ghost helps in targeting goal #1. ⋅ Table

*️⃣ Rework my reading workflow - 100% Completed

Before creation comes reading. It’s probably the most unsettled aspect of my
content creation workflow. I need to put this in order. ⋅ Table

make sure to update the feed configuration behind the scenes. That’s the future,
