Open molding
Open mold fiberglass is a way to make strong things, like boats and car parts.
First, a mold is made and then put fiberglass material inside. The term "open
mold" means that the mold is not completely closed. This way, manufacturers can
reach inside and make things more quickly.
Closed molding – Light RTM
Closed Mold Fiberglass, also known as Resin Transfer Molding, creates precise,
smooth, and durable parts with little waste. Dry fiberglass material is placed
in a closed tool which is then injected with resin under pressure.
Spray lay up – Neat or filled resins
Spray lay-up fiberglass is a quick and inexpensive way to produce strong
materials. Fiberglass strands are cut and sprayed onto a mold, then a liquid is
added to create a solid shape.
Hand lay up
Hand layup fiberglass is an inexpensive and versatile method of making things
using fiberglass fabric and resin. Layers of fabric and resin are added by hand
onto a mold until the desired strength and thickness is achieved.
Mold manufacture – laminated polyester
Laminated polyester is a durable and chemical-resistant material that's great
for making molds. A sticky mixture with hardeners is applied to the mold
surface, dried, and results in a strong and long-lasting mold that can be used
repeatedly.
Mold manufacture – prototype
Mold manufacturing creates duplicates of objects with molds made of metal or
plastic. It's used for parts, glass, and toys. Prototypes made with computer
software can identify issues before mass production. Essential for gadgets,
medical equipment, and cars.
Pattern making
Fiberglass pattern making creates strong, precise molds through layering
fiberglass cloth and resin on a pre-made mold. A model is created (using clay,
wood, foam, or 3D printing), coated in a release agent, then layered with
fiberglass and resin until the desired thickness is achieved. The resulting mold
is lightweight and sturdy, and can be used multiple times.
