PERSONAL INVITATION BY THE TONI PIËCH FOUNDATION

This New Year’s Reception will convene an invited group of 50 grantees, business
contacts, friends and family of the Toni Piëch Foundation. It’s an opportunity
to briefly look back on the activities of the first fully operational year of
the foundation and it’s focus on climate change, renewable energy and the future
of construction. And to explore fertile ground for future projects. This
reception takes place in the aftermath of the World Economic Forum in Davos,
which our Founder and some of our grantees attend since many years and which we
hope will inspire our discussions and ideas at the reception.

SPEAKER

Karin Seiz
Partner of Galerie Urs Meile

Both Europe and China have culturally rich spheres, abundant in depth and
diversity. Emerging within these realms is a new generation of collectors
brimming with a desire for cultural immersion. Karin Seiz is a partner of
Galerie Urs Meile. Since 1995, the gallery has been dedicated to Chinese
contemporary art. Over the past almost thirty years, it has consolidated its
position as an important cultural bridge between East and West. Presently, with
exhibition spaces located in Beijing, Zurich, Lucerne, and Ardez, Galerie Urs
Meile curates between 14 - 16 exhibitions annually.

Gnanli Landrou
Co-Founder of Oxara

The way we live today in the Global North is built on the construction of
high-quality housing and infrastructure. Unfortunately, the way it was done led
to resource scarcity and significant carbon emissions. As the emerging economies
strive for a better life for present and future generations, it is vital to
rethink construction and limit future emissions. This requires a paradigm and
technology shift in the construction sector. As native Togolese growing up in a
clay house, award winning Dr. Gnanli Landrou challenges the status quo in
construction with his ETH spin-off Oxara. With the goal in mind to enable
sustainable construction and affordable housing to help Africa and the rest of
the world, Oxara is developing a cement-free concrete made from waste excavation
material and construction demolition waste.

Marc Engelhardt
Head of Correctiv Crowdnewsroom

Stories make us human. Stories shape our life. For good and for bad. Stories are
always life stories. Those of ideas, diversity, experience, wisdom or passion.
And that of things coming to life – or not, depending on the story being told.
Storytelling therefore is key when it comes to sustainability and the built
environment, which is crafted to cater to human needs and interaction. And
storytelling is also one of the four key areas of the TPF. Marc Engelhardt,
journalist and book author will share some background about his work at
Correctiv and the project with TPF.
