Countries must immediately stop supplying arms to Israel and Palestinian Armed groups. Gaza Appeal LOOKING FOR YOUR NEAREST OXFAM Oxfam is a global organization with affiliates in 20 countries. Default link OUR WORK SIX MONTHS OF VIOLENCE AND SIEGE FOR 2.3 MILLION PALESTINIANS IN GAZA After the atrocities committed on October 7, 2023, Israel’s escalation in Gaza is the most brutal onslaught of violence carried out against Palestinians during the 57-year-long Israeli occupation. Before the latest escalation of violence, over 80% of the population in Gaza relied on some form of humanitarian aid for survival, and life in the Gaza Strip was characterised by the almost total restriction on travel and trade, and the absence of social safety nets and livelihood opportunities. However, life for the 2.3 million Palestinians trapped inside Gaza has turned into an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. OPEN CALL FOR AN IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE #CeasefireNow: Open Call for an Immediate Ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Israel to Stop the Humanitarian Catastrophe and Further Loss of Innocent Lives WEALTH OF FIVE RICHEST MEN DOUBLES SINCE 2020 AS FIVE BILLION PEOPLE MADE POORER IN "DECADE OF DIVISION," SAYS OXFAM The world’s five richest men have more than doubled their fortunes from $405 billion to $869 billion since 2020 —at a rate of $14 million per hour— while nearly five billion people have been made poorer, reveals a new Oxfam report on inequality and global corporate power. If current trends continue, the world will have its first trillionaire within a decade but poverty won’t be eradicated for another 229 years. OXFAM REACTION TO ZUCMAN REPORT TO BRAZIL’S G20 PRESIDENCY ON TAXING THE SUPER-RICH Published today, economist Gabriel Zucman’s report ―due to be formally presented at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting in July― sets out a proposal for a global standard on taxing the ultra-rich. In response, Oxfam International’s Tax Policy Lead Susana Ruiz said: “This is a sensible and serious proposal that is in every government’s strategic economic interest. All G20 countries should support Brazil’s push to secure the first-ever global deal to tax the super-rich. We welcome the Zucman report, which offers a critical contribution toward fixing a system that allows the ultra-rich to avoid taxes and not only accumulate and protect astronomical amounts of wealth and income ―but also hide it from governments." GAZA HUNGER FIGURES REFLECT “SHAMEFUL FAILURE” OF GLOBAL LEADERS: OXFAM Reaction to the latest Global Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report published today, which warns that a high risk of famine persists across the Gaza Strip. IN TEN WORST-HIT COUNTRIES, INCREASING FLOODS AND DROUGHT HAVE FORCED PEOPLE TO FLEE 8 MILLION TIMES LAST YEAR – OVER TWICE THAT OF A DECADE AGO Water-related disasters forced people to flee from their homes nearly eight million separate times in 10 of the world’s worst-hit countries last year, with many having to move multiple times – a 120% increase compared to a decade ago, said Oxfam today. THE FUTURE IS EQUAL Oxfam is a global movement of people, working together to end the injustice of poverty. That means we tackle the inequality that keeps people poor.
