Collaboration is key to achieving great results, and our partners are enthusiastic about working with us towards shared visions. ABOUT The TERRAMETA consortium comprises 13 Institutions including universities, research centers, and companies, with more than 50 researchers associated with its activities, all working in the area of wireless communications, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs), and metamaterial-based antennas under a common vision for 6G wireless networks, aiming to provide unprecedented levels of data transfer rates, reliability, connectivity, and coverage. TERRAMETA is on the forefront of the global 6G research and planning endeavor. The project focuses on designing, manufacturing, and evaluating surfaces, made of metamaterials, with reconfigurable responses on the impinging electromagnetic waves, targeting their deployment as advanced planar antenna arrays under the Terahertz (THz) frequency band. This band, which serves a candidate new band for 6G communications, is expected to offer 1000’s of orders of magnitude higher bandwidth than the current 5G systems. RISs can act as reflectors, sensors, and/or transmitters/receivers of wireless signals and can be deployed to intelligently control their reflection/sensing(receiving)/transmitting in real-time (thanks to sophisticated signal processing and/or AI-based algorithms possibly running in their internal controllers) in order to optimize wireless operation providing the best possible quality of service to users with reduced costs at the end of wireless operators.
