Severe Weather Outbreak Continues Across the South
An eventful day is in store for severe weather over the southern and
      central U.S. today and Friday.

A potent low pressure system will deepen over the southern Plains today,
which will unleash severe storms across much of the southern Plains and
Lower Mississippi Valley this afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center is
highlighting a corridor of very hazardous weather from Dallas to Little
Rock, Ark., and Shreveport, La. This region is covered by a Moderate
Risk for severe weather. Widespread damaging winds are likely, with a
      regional tornado outbreak possible.

This system will lose a little bit of its punch as it works into the
southeastern U.S. on Friday but scattered severe storms will still be
possible as the work week comes to a close. Strong winds will be the main
concern as the storm's cold front advances from Alabama and the eastern
Tennessee Valley, Ohio Valley, and into the Carolinas.

In addition to dangerous thunderstorms, heavy rain will be a concern over
the next several days. The threat for heavy rain will be focused from the
southern Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley and Deep South into the Midwest
and Tennessee Valley through today. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches will
be likely each day, with locally higher amounts up to 5 inches possible.
This much rain will likely lead to flooding, especially near rivers,
creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone areas. If you approach
a flooded roadway, it is always best to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown!”

Flood Watches are in effect from the central Plains and Mid-Mississippi
Valley into the Midwest and Ohio Valley. This includes Muskogee, Okla.,
Branson, Mo., Little Rock, Ark., Memphis and Jackson, Tenn., Tupelo,
Miss., and Florence, Ala. Additional watches have also been issued for the
Ohio Valley including Louisville, Ky., Fort Wayne, Ind., and Columbus,
      Ohio.
