With a previous investment banking internship, I wanted to shift my focus within
finance. After research into buy-side roles, I knew that venture capital would
best align with my interests and passion. A few months ago, I came across the
opportunity and joined the Sutton Capital program, which was structured as an

the valuable experience we would get as analysts in the program. The first few

the valuable experience we would get as analysts in the program. The first few
weeks, he taught us the quantitative and qualitative skillsets needed to
properly invest early stage startups. Through his lectures and collaborations
with other managing partners, we were able to grasp the space and hit the ground
running. It was inspiring to hear how Joel was able to make investments into
notable startups that were carving out a niche within its own space. Finding
innovative companies that were becoming market leaders or trend setters was
exciting to say the least. The best part of the program was the fact that we
were able to work with other students from a diverse set of backgrounds. They
were from universities all across the U.S. and even overseas studying different
majors with a unique lens on valuing startups. We were broken up into teams with
different sector specializations and had team exercises that helped us grow as
professionals. We were expected in the latter half of the program to pitch
companies to an investment committee that consisted of different venture capital
funds. Having this exposure was great to get critical feedback in improving for
the next time around. Lastly, having a group of like-minded individuals really
made this experience memorable and long-lasting for me. I would encourage anyone
that has doubts about their current career path to open your mind to venture
capital as well as this program.

It has been an excellent and eye-opening experience joining the Sutton Capital
Venture Capital programme. During the first three weeks of the programme, Joel
gave a very comprehensive overview of the VC industry and some of the technical
knowledge we need to know. The best of the programme is the next five weeks,
when I have the opportunity to source deals, attend pitch events, directly
engage with founders and others in the start-up ecosystems. I have learnt how
VCs analyse and evaluate investment opportunities by presenting in the Partners’
meeting and receiving very useful feedback from Joe

also enjoyed getting to know and develop friendships with other like-minded
students from a very diverse background based around the world.

Joel is very experienced, has a wide network, and willing to spend time on a
one-on-one basis for mentorship. I would recommend this programme to anyone who
is interested in the Venture Capital industry.

Sutton Capital’s VC Training and Mentorship Program was a great experience and I
recommend it to anybody who wants to learn the VC deal lifecycle and network
while in the process. The people within the program come from all over the world
and have a diverse set of backgrounds such as PE, software engineering,
healthcare, banking etc.

You get to learn about VC with our leader, Joel, who incorporates his real world
experience into the curriculum and you get to present live deals at investment
committees to other VCs that potentially want to co-invest with Sutton Capital.

I learned about the start-up ecosystem, financial modeling for early and
sometimes pre-revenue businesses, and how to source potential deals in B2C.

Joel brings in guest speakers, other VCs, and he is very helpful in career
coaching. I really appreciate what he has done here and he brings a ton of value
to the table which is why I highly recommend this program to anyone who is
entrepreneurial and wants to learn more about start-up investing.

Sutton Capital hosts an 8-week educational program that is very comprehensive
and provides a great introduction into the VC world. Some of the topics
discussed include VC v. PE, deal flow management, startup outreach techniques
and financial models and KPIs etc.

Even though I was well acquainted with VC when I joined the Sutton Capital
program, I still learned a lot from it. I was able to get first-hand experience
in talking to startup founders, analyzing market trends and preparing financial
models to make valuable investment decisions.

Last April, I joined the Venture Capital fellowship program at Sutton Capital
and it has been an amazing journey!

Throughout this program, I got the opportunity to learn the theory and directly
put it into practice. Joel gives you the opportunity to source deals in the
industry you are passionate about, to engage with founders of startups in full
autonomy and present your best deals in front of different VCs. This experience
gave me lots of exposure among the VC industry which help me to secure several
interviews both in the US and oversees (Hong Kong, Sydney). I definitely

Sutton Capital’s Venture Capital Investor Program has been an extremely positive
experience. Joel is an extremely caring and thoughtful mentor who is very
knowledgeable and well-connected in VC industry.

From the program, I have been able to learn about how a VC fund operates, learn
how to source deals, improve my financial modeling skills, speak directly with
founders, and present deals and receive feedback to not only Sutton Capital but
also other VC’s in Joel’s network. We also have had the opportunity to learn
from a CFO and lawyer in the venture space.

This program is a great fit for aspiring VC people; as we have entry level

really is a great opportunity to learn, get informed about startup trends and

Joel is the absolute best, he is incredibly responsive and supportive. I use
what I’ve learned in this course almost daily in my day job, matching founders
with VC funding. The Monday partners meeting with Venture Capitalists as guests,
are a really valuable resource. The guests give great feedback that has deepened
my knowledge of what VCs are looking for. If you want to get into VC or a VC
adjacent industry I would recommend this course to give you the most extensive
toolbox and experience to find out if this is for you. 10/10 you won’t regret
it.

Over and above there are 1–1 office hours for the cohort covering course
material, as well as mentoring on VC fundamentals and deal sourcing and any and
everything that one needs to learn to be a productive and efficient VC.

I’ve said all this when all I wanted to say is that I thoroughly enjoyed this
experience and would recommend hands down to those who are seeking such an
awesome opportunity to learn how to mold their career paths towards the Venture
Capital Industry !
