William Irvin LewisWriterMotorTrend StaffPhotographerManufacturerPhotographerMar 25, 2022 The electric SUV segment didn’t exist half a decade ago but is now full to bursting with serious and competitive options, as well as multiple categories ranging from compact to full-size three-row luxury vehicles. Electric SUVs are commonplace in 2024, to the point where even off-road and performance niches are all well covered by multiple options. Whether you’re looking for a commuter without the gasoline bill or something to adventure with on- or off-road, these electric SUVs have you covered. Here’s the exhaustive list of SUVs without exhaust pipes: 2024 ACURA ZDX Style-forward and tech-heavy, the 2024 Acura ZDX makes a splash amongst EV SUVs even as a second- or third-wave arrival. Google handles infotainment, including Google Assistant, the App Store, and route optimization through Google Maps. A product of the already cancelled General Motors–Honda collaboration centered on Ultium EV tech, the ZDX offers the same heavyweight power. Whether some of the same problems faced by the Ultium-powered Blazer will also show up in the ZDX is yet to be seen. * Price: $69,850 * EPA Range: 304–313 miles 2024 AUDI Q4 AND Q4 SPORTBACK E-TRON The 2024 Audi Q4 and Q4 Sportback E-Tron look sharp, and we love their high-tech interiors. What's a Sportback? Audi-speak for a variant that ups the style quotient by removing some roofline for a more fastback appearance. Our range-topping Prestige tester feels less expensive than its larger E-Tron sibling, which is expected because of its lower price. Range and charging speed aren’t great, though. * Price: $56,395 * EPA Range: 236–265 miles 2025 AUDI Q6 AND Q6 SPORTBACK E-TRON Built on the new Premium Platform Electric, or PPE, the 2025 Audi Q6 and Q6 Sportback E-Tron promise to offer greater range and faster charging than previous Audi electric SUVs. Fast charging and plenty of battery size should help make these new SUVs more practical road trip vehicles while maintaining their around-town excellence from before. * Price: $60,000 to $75,000 (est) * EPA Range: up to 307 miles 2024 AUDI Q8 AND Q8 SPORTBACK E-TRON The 2024 Audi Q8 E-Tron feels much like its gas-powered kin in everyday driving. This stylish electric SUV from Audi benefits from responsive steering and a buttery-smooth powertrain, and drivers don't have to worry about overly aggressive regenerative braking that affects some electric vehicles. Packing motors at the front and rear, the E-Tron delivers 355 hp, and a Boost mode temporarily ups the ante to 402 hp. A new E-Tron S model is even more powerful, making 496 hp. Those who think the Audi Q8 E-Tron looks a little too conventional may be more interested in the slinkier Sportback version. Just keep in mind the Sportback's EPA-rated range falls by 4 miles to a maximum of 218 miles on a charge, and due to its raked rear roof, it has less headroom for rear passengers compared with its squarer stablemate. * Price: $75,595 * EPA Range: 285–300 miles 2024 BMW IX BMW’s future is being welcomed by the 2024 BMW iX. A good but somewhat oddly styled Tesla Model X alternative, the electric SUV from BMW is remarkably quiet and quick, thanks to two motors with a combined output of 516 hp and 564 lb-ft of torque. Watch out for the iX M60 model that packs 532 hp and 749 lb-ft. Prices for the more powerful model skyrocket into the six-figure range. * Price: $88,425 * EPA Range: 217–307 miles 2025 CADILLAC ESCALADE IQ Bigger and badder than any other Cadillac EV, the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ is meant to be excessive—just like the regular Escalade. Pricing starts over $130,000, power is up to 750 hp, and the dimensions of the Escalade certainly haven’t been made smaller. We look forward to seeing if interior quality is up to snuff, and if the IQ will get a sportier V variant. * Price: $130,000 (est) * EPA Range: 460 miles (est) 2024 CADILLAC LYRIQ The other Cadillac EV SUV available is the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq, larger and more expensive than the newer Optiq. Smooth, plush, comfortable, and relaxed, the Lyriq isn’t competing for 0–60-mph bragging rights. Excellent hands-free driving via Super Cruise and great one-pedal driving make for one of the most relaxing driving experiences you can get today. That said, build quality might be an issue, along with some software bugs. * Price: $58,590 * EPA Range: 307–314 miles 2025 CADILLAC OPTIQ Design panache in the same style as the Lyriq makes the 2025 Cadillac Optiq fit well within the new Cadillac electric SUV landscape for 2024. A massive 33-inch infotainment screen and an excellent sound system back up the standard battery of Cadillac luxuries, though CarPlay and Android Auto are omitted in favor of a Google-supplied infotainment experience. The battery supports 800-volt fast charging, and its 85 kWh should be good for 300 miles of range. * Price: $54,000 (est) * EPA Range: 300 miles (est) Related: Cadillac Optiq vs. Lyriq vs. Vistiq—What’s the Difference? 2024 CHEVROLET BLAZER EV Despite winning our 2024 SUV of the Year award, the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV has suffered a number of software problems. But now GM says the slick-looking electric SUV is fixed, back with lower pricing and full $7,500 credit eligibility for every trim level available for mid-2024. The power, tech, and easy-to-drive nature of the Blazer EV remain, though its lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto stays, as well. * Price: $57,215 * EPA Range: 279–324 miles 2024 CHEVROLET EQUINOX EV If the plan for the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV works out, the cheapest versions could undercut the rest of the compact electric SUV market. Although it likely won’t be available to order in 2024, General Motors has made many promises regarding its price-leader $35,000 Ultium EV platform–based Equinox. For now, we’ll have to make do with the more expensive models available today. That said, the cost cutting is palpable. Some of the options are excellent, especially Super Cruise hands-free driving, but all-wheel drive isn’t standard even on currently available $45,000 models. Charging is also slow, but every Equinox EV gets the same rather large 85-kWh battery pack. * Price: $43,295 * EPA Range: 285–319 miles 2024 FORD MUSTANG MACH-E Although the Mustang name (and, frankly, the shape it’s applied to here) is controversial on the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E, its athleticism is not. Both the frugal-minded and the performance-oriented will find a variant suited to their needs. Power ranges from 266 horses on the entry-level Select trim to 480 ponies on the top-line GT variant. Living up to the Mustang name, it often drives like a sports car, although it suffers from wind and road noise on the highway. Inside, there's a dazzling 15.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with high-resolution graphics and logical menus. * Price: $41,990 * EPA Range: 230–320 miles 2024 GENESIS GV60 The 2024 Genesis GV60 is arguably among the most comfortable and comfort-focused electric SUVs out there today. Magnificently plush seating, a bumpin’ stereo, and genuinely rapid acceleration make even the higher trim levels of the GV60 worth their substantial asking price. Straddling the line between stately comfort and supersonic speed, the GV60 Performance is especially tempting, and the whole lineup charges about as fast as they accelerate. * Price: $53,350 * EPA Range: 235–294 miles 2024 GENESIS ELECTRIFIED GV70 As the GV60’s bigger sibling, the 2024 Genesis Electrified GV70 has many of the same upsides and downsides, but with more space. Unlike the GV60, the GV70 doesn’t sit on a bespoke EV platform—it is converted from the gas-fed GV70 SUV—but that means it shares its aristocratic good looks with its ICE counterpart. Similar to the GV60, range isn’t great, though performance and charging times are. * Price: $67,800 * EPA Range: 236 miles 2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV Other EV SUVs are faster, or more off-road capable, but none are as bombastic as the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV. Built from General Motors’ supertruck, the Hummer EV, the slightly shorter Hummer EV SUV eschews practicality and efficiency for the sake of rowdy performance and fun. Easily one of the least efficient electric vehicles on sale, the Hummer uses more than double the energy per mile than something like an Ioniq 5. In this and just about every other way, the Hummer remains true to its forebears’ fuel-guzzling, swaggering attitude despite being fully electric. * Price: $98,845 * EPA Range: 298–314 miles 2024 HONDA PROLOGUE Imbued with Honda badges and styling, the 2024 Honda Prologue is actually a Chevy. It’s based on GM’s Ultium technology and therefore related to the Blazer EV, but so far it hasn’t fallen victim to the Chevy’s early production software woes. More conservatively styled and less powerful than the Blazer, the Prologue is nevertheless one of the first electric SUVs built by an automaker whose reputation hangs largely on reliability. * Price: $48,795 * EPA Range: 273–296 miles 2024 HYUNDAI IONIQ 5 The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5's stylishly boxy sheetmetal matches its modern, high-quality interior. When we tested a 320-hp AWD example , we hit 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. This hatchlike SUV is quite playful around corners, even drifting when all the electronic nannies are switched off. Brake feel, however, could be improved. With the super-hot Ioniq 5 N now available, the gloves are off; the N is a truly track-capable, attainable EV unlike anything else on the market. * Price: $43,195 * EPA Range: 220–303 miles 2024 HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC A fresh-faced electric SUV for 2024, the Hyundai Kona Electric incorporates slick new bodywork over a larger interior. This makes for a more mature and refined Kona than the previous model, feeling more like a compact crossover than a hatchback on stilts. Pricing is attractive, too, starting in the mid-$30,000 space to start, and the interior layout is similar to the SUV of the Year–winning Ioniq 5. * Price: $34,070 * EPA Range: 200–261 miles 2024 HYUNDAI NEXO The 2024 Hyundai Nexo helps us not forget about fuel cells when we discuss electric vehicles. Instead of a charging cable, the Hyundai Nexo uses hydrogen to power its approximately 161-hp electric motor. It can travel an estimated 380 miles on a full tank of hydrogen before its driver needs to refuel (that number drops to 354 miles if you spring for the top Limited trim). Just make sure to leave yourself plenty of extra miles between fill-ups, as we've often encountered problems trying to get hydrogen fuel. If you find an open station with enough fuel, filling up the Nexo is much quicker than charging a typical battery-electric vehicle to full capacity. * Price: $61,470 * EPA Range: 380 miles 2024 JAGUAR I-PACE We could hardly blame you for gravitating toward the 2024 Jaguar I-Pace for its captivating design alone. The Jaguar SUV not only resembles a concept car that escaped the studio, it also benefits from a composed ride with little to no body roll, as well as prodigious power from its two electric motors. The fresh infotainment system was added for 2022 and is a major improvement over the previous setup, though overall range is poor given how expensive the Jag is. * Price: $73,875 * EPA Range: 217–246 miles 2025 JEEP WAGONEER S Although it looks like a Jeep Grand Cherokee from the future, the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S’ dramatic styling isn’t only to catch your eyes—it affords the Wagoneer S the best drag coefficient of any production Jeep ever. This is crucial to provide the necessary 300-plus miles of claimed range. Beyond that, the Wagoneer S’ 600 horsepower will boot it beyond 60 mph from a standstill in 3.4 seconds, according to Jeep. Considering the other Wagoneers are three-row affairs and this one is a two-row five-seater, it will be interesting to see how it fits into the lineup. * Price: $71,995 (Launch Edition) * EPA Range: 300-plus miles (est) 2024 KIA EV6 A vehicle that reminds us of its SUV of the Year–winning Ioniq 5 platform mate, the sportier 2024 Kia EV6 is quick, loves to go sideways, and has precise steering. Although brake pedal feel is a bit dull, overall, the EV6 feels more like a hot wagon than an SUV given its limited headroom and low-slung shape. Fortunately, occupants shouldn't have a problem with legroom in either row. * Price: $43,975 * EPA Range: 218–310 miles 2024 KIA EV9 Easily one of the best-looking family haulers on sale, the 2024 Kia EV9 leverages its futuristic look to great effect, while its boxiness affords it a spacious and useful interior. It brings an abundance of power, as well, along with 230-kW charging capability that makes its middling range less of a negative. A three-row SUV with this much cool factor is uncommon to say the least, and the materials and tech make the EV9 worth its surprisingly affordable price. * Price: $56,395 * EPA Range: 230–304 miles 2023 Niro EV 2024 KIA NIRO EV More like a hatchback than an SUV, in many ways to its credit, the 2024 Kia Niro EV is nevertheless a little pricey for what you get. Big style in a compact footprint is the first impression the Niro EV gives, and once inside you’ll see it has a lot of space for the small footprint, as well. On the flip side, it’s only available with front-wheel drive, isn’t particularly fast when it comes to charging, and range is decent but not amazing. The Niro EV isn’t bad at all, but its rivals and competitors may have left it behind as technology moves forward. * Price: $40,975 * EPA Range: 253 miles 2024 LEXUS RZ Presumptions of Lexus quality and reliability meet disappointing range numbers with the 2024 Lexus RZ. Ride quality, material quality, and overall comfort are up to the levels one expects with a Lexus. But the RZ charges at a barely adequate 150 kW, and range hovers in the mid-to-low 200-mile ballpark. For an EV in the $50,000 to $60,000 range, that’s less than impressive. * Price: $55,150 * EPA Range: 196–266 miles 2025 LOTUS ELETRE Colin Chapman might be turning in his grave with the release of the 2025 Lotus Eletre, a nearly three-ton SUV that’s the very antithesis of the “simplify and add lightness” mantra of the brand’s famed founder and Formula 1 race car builder. With up to 905 horsepower, the Eletre can certainly get up and go, but physics means any current electric SUV will only handle well “for an SUV,” and this Lotus hasn’t quite changed physics. 800-volt support and 350-kw maximum charging speed do mean that the Eletre is on the leading edge of electric vehicle powertrain tech, though. * Price: $107,000 * EPA Range: 300-plus miles (est) 2025 LUCID GRAVITY Now that Lucid’s Air has made a splash as the longest-range production electric sedan ever made, the 2025 Lucid Gravity intends to do the same in the EV SUV space. Just like its long-range sedan sibling, the Gravity is meant to offer not only big-time range but also clever interior space and performance a cut above the rest, leveraging the same industry-exclusive 900-volt electric architecture. Expectations are high. * Price: $80,000 (est) * EPA Range: Up to 440 miles (est) 2024 MERCEDES-BENZ EQB-CLASS Mercedes continues to feel around the luxury EV market with its EQ-branded EVs, and the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQB-Class is a good example of that. Handling and power are good, but the 100-kW maximum charging speed is weak, as is the EQB’s maximum range. The second row is small, and overall interior materials aren’t up to the Mercedes-Benz price tag. Other companies, especially recent arrivals to carmaking, use the new design freedoms opened up by electric power to add interior space and improve packaging, but the EQB seems stuck in the past. * Price: $54,200 * EPA Range: 207–251 miles 2024 MERCEDES-BENZ EQE-CLASS SUV A mixed bag with definite upsides, the jellybean-shaped 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE-Class SUV pairs excellent interior materials and technology with the standard gripes we have with most new EQ models. The brake pedal doesn’t inspire confidence with its strange feedback and long travel, the ride is firm to the point of being overly harsh, and road noise at the EQE’s level is hard to accept for the price. All that said, this SUV does have the performance, power, and material quality to suit that price point, if not necessarily the three-pointed star. * Price: $79,050 * EPA Range: 230–307 miles 2024 MERCEDES-BENZ EQS-CLASS SUV Another EQ-branded Merc, the confusingly named 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS-Class SUV (since there is an EQS sedan) is the top-of-the-line electric Mercedes SUV. Build quality is solid and stately, though with prices starting in the six-figure range, that's to be expected. Maneuverability and off-road capability are both much better than one would expect thanks to technologies like four-wheel steering, but an electric SUV for 2024, especially for EQS-level prices, shouldn’t struggle with road noise or seating practicality woes as much as this Benz does. * Price: $105,550 * EPA Range: 280–339 miles 2024 NISSAN ARIYA More than a decade after introducing the Leaf electric hatchback and kicking off the modern consumer EV marketplace, Nissan has a more mainstream EV, the 2024 Nissan Ariya compact SUV. Within its right-sized, not-weird shape, Nissan is leaning upscale with available Nappa leather seats, a panoramic moonroof, and ProPilot Park, which controls steering, acceleration, and braking into a parking space. Despite all that, slow charging and middling range hurt the Ariya in this suddenly crowded market. * Price: $40,980 * EPA Range: 205–304 miles Related: Nissan Ariya vs. Tesla Model Y 2025 POLESTAR 3 High-end safety tech, good handling, and plenty of interior space make the 2025 Polestar 3 worth a look, especially if you dig the sharp bodywork. A radar-based child- and pet-monitoring system joins hands-free driving with automated lane change and automated parking assist, all in a vehicle that handles neutrally thanks to a rear-biased AWD system. Polestar claims a range of 315 miles for the base model and 279 for the Performance pack–equipped vehicle. * Price: $87,800 * EPA Range: 279–315 miles 2025 PORSCHE MACAN ELECTRIC Porsche takes a deep dive into electrification with the 2025 Porsche Macan Electric, as every Macan will be all-electric from the 2025 model year onward. (The gas versions are still available for 2024, alongside limited versions of the Electric.) Charging, handling, and performance are all expected to be thoroughly impressive, though prices are substantially higher than previous Macan models. * Price: $77,295 * EPA Range: 290 miles (est) 2024 RIVIAN R1S The 2024 Rivian R1S continues to astonish with its power, handling, practicality, and spaciousness. An SUV version of the hugely capable R1T pickup, the R1S does things very few vehicles can on-road and off it, all while looking excellent and bringing along the whole family for the ride. Downsides include a lack of CarPlay and Android Auto and high prices for every trim. * Price: $77,900 * EPA Range: 255–400 miles 2024 SUBARU SOLTERRA Standard AWD and generous ground clearance of 8.3 inches makes the 2024 Subaru Solterra capable off the beaten path. Although steering is softer than we'd like, we appreciate the Subaru SUV's quiet cabin as it traverses rough dirt roads. As it was developed with Toyota alongside that automaker's bZ4X SUV, the Solterra shares a similar exterior design and infotainment system, as well as that Toyota’s middling range and slow charging speed. * Price: $46,340 * EPA Range: 222–227 miles 2024 TESLA MODEL Y Although it doesn't have the dramatic falcon wing rear doors of its bigger Model X sibling, the 2024 Tesla Model Y still offers plenty of the American automaker's innate magic in the popular compact electric SUV form. A 456-hp 2020 Model Y Performance we tested accelerated to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, or 0.3 second better than what we managed from a 503-hp 2020 BMW X3 M Competition. A massive 15.0-inch touchscreen, second-row reclining seats, and a large cargo bay contribute to the cabin's minimalist but attractive and practical design. Note that the available third row is very small and best used only in a pinch. * Price: $46,380 * EPA Range: 279–320 miles 2024 TESLA MODEL X Simply put, the Tesla Model X is a pioneer among electric SUVs. Or, it was. It was the first vehicle of its kind to offer practical electric range, which is true of every Tesla model. The standard Model X seats five people, but buyers can upgrade to a six- or seven-seat configuration. A recent update brings revisions to the Model X's exterior and interior including an available steering yoke in place of a regular wheel. Tesla also added a new high-performance Plaid version, which packs three electric motors and a whopping 1,020 hp. * Price: $67,380 * EPA Range: 326–335 miles 2024 TOYOTA BZ4X The name might not have the same ring to it as the “Solterra” moniker applied to its Subaru-badged cousin, but the 2024 Toyota bZ4X looks quite a bit like its sibling. Unlike the Solterra, it is offered in both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations, the former boosting range somewhat over the AWD-only Solterra. It features Toyota's latest Safety Sense package with enhanced lane recognition and pre-collision technology. Toyota says over-the-air software updates can improve both performance and Toyota Safety Sense without needing to visit a dealership. * Price: $48,675 * EPA Range: 222–252 miles 2024 VINFAST VF8 New to the U.S. market, Vietnamese automaker VinFast isn’t making a hot first impression. The VinFast VF8 is among the worst new vehicles we’ve experienced in a long time, but improvements are likely in the pipeline. Numerous malfunctions and issues plagued our experience with the 2023 model, though software updates could solve many of them. * Price: $46,000 * EPA Range: 191–207 miles 2024 VOLKSWAGEN ID4 Priced under $42,000, the 2024 Volkswagen ID4 aims to deliver the goods for those who just want a good family-ready two-row compact electric SUV. In standard single-motor RWD configuration, the 201-hp electric motor mounted to its rear axle provides enough grunt to push VW's electric SUV to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds in our testing. It's now also offered in dual-motor AWD guise , pumping out 295 hp. * Price: $41,160 * EPA Range: 206–291 miles 2025 Volvo EX30 Chic and compact, the 2025 Volvo EX30 will be both Volvo’s quickest accelerating vehicle and one of its most affordable electric SUVs. Google handles infotainment for the minimalist interior, which we fear might be too screen-heavy. A more off-roady EX30 Cross Country (XC) variant with higher ground clearance and skidplates is also on the cards. * Price: $36,000 (est) * EPA Range: 265-275 miles (est) 2024 VOLVO EX90 Larger and more spacious than other Volvo electric SUVs, the 2024 Volvo EX90 is a three-row SUV with a focus on safety. Sound familiar? That’s because it replaces Volvo’s last three-row SUV with a focus on safety, the gas-fed XC90. Multiple arrays of sensors help prevent or mitigate a measurable percentage of accidents, all on top of Volvo’s legendary passive safety systems. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and owner’s phones will be able to control door locks and climate control, as well as act as keys. * Price: $81,290 * EPA Range: Up to 308 miles (est) XC40 Recharge 2024 VOLVO XC40 AND C40 RECHARGE With a combined output of 402 hp from a motor at each axle, the 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge packs 154 horses more in its stable than the most powerful gas-powered XC40, the turbocharged T5 model. In addition to more power, the XC40 Recharge is also quieter and handles better. Of course, these benefits come at a cost, with the gas-powered version coming in at around $20,000 cheaper when comparing base models. If an XC40 Recharge sounds interesting to you, also check out the C40 Recharge, its sloped-roofline variant. * Price: $53,745 * EPA Range: 254–297 miles EVERY ELECTRIC SUV AND CROSSOVER YOU CAN BUY IN 2024 * 2024 Acura ZDX * 2024 Audi Q4 / Q4 Sportback E-Tron * 2024 Audi Q6 / Q6 Sportback E-Tron * 2024 Audi Q8 / Q8 Sportback E-Tron * 2024 BMW iX * 2025 Cadillac Lyriq * 2024 Cadillac Optiq * 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ * 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV * 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV * 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E * 2024 Genesis GV60 * 2024 Genesis GV70 Electric * 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV * 2024 Honda Prologue * 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 * 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric * 2024 Hyundai Nexo * 2024 Jaguar I-Pace * 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S * 2024 Kia EV6 * 2024 Kia EV9 * 2024 Kia Niro EV * 2024 Lexus RZ * 2025 Lotus Eletre * 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQB-Class * 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE-Class * 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS-Class SUV * 2024 Nissan Ariya * 2024 Polestar 3 * 2025 Porsche Macan Electric * 2024 Rivian R1S * 2025 Lucid Gravity * 2024 Subaru Solterra * 2024 Tesla Model Y * 2024 Tesla Model X * 2024 Toyota bZ4X * 2024 VinFast VF8 * 2024 Volkswagen ID4 * 2024 Volvo EX30 * 2025 Volvo EX90 * 2024 Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge WILLIAM IRVIN LEWIS An SW20 MR2 guy turned begrudging ND2 Miata guy, Will drives that ND2 in AutoX, drift, and occasional HPDEs.
