ABOUT NAS

The NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) Division delivers a cohesive
high-performance computing (HPC) environment to accelerate NASA missions and
make revolutionary advances and discoveries. Our innovative HPC technologies and
research results are used to tackle some of the toughest science and engineering
challenges facing the agency today.

At the heart of NAS’s exceptional capabilities are our people—the experts who
research and develop the tools, methods, and software to support the vital
supercomputing resources provided to multiple NASA mission organizations. In
addition, we focus on four key technical areas that encompass development of
software codes and tools to support NASA's real-world engineering applications
and fundamental scientific advances.

Find out more about our supercomputing resources and services and our key
technical areas:

 * Supercomputing: Procure, manage, and operate the supercomputing facilities
   and user services on behalf of the High End Computing Capability (HECC)
   project.
 * Aeronautics Research: Develop technologies and conduct simulation studies to
   support NASA's aerospace engineering programs and meet future aviation needs
   for safe, efficient, environmentally sustainable aircraft.
 * Launch Vehicle Analysis: Conduct computational modeling, simulation, and
   aerodynamics analysis of space launch vehicle designs and launch scenarios to
   ensure the highest possible performance and safety.
 * Risk/Safety Assessment: Provide advanced risk analyses to support development
   of complex space launch and exploration systems, and evaluate the possible
   damage risks from potential asteroid impacts.
 * Heliophysics: Develop tools for researching and modeling the Sun’s interior
   and atmosphere.

Our teams use the maximum computing power available to solve large problems in
the shortest amount of time—often helping solve problems of a size or complexity
that were previously impossible or impractical to work out.

We also play a significant leadership role in the HPC community and foster
collaborative relationships within NASA, other government organizations,
universities, and industry to help meet high-end computing goals for the agency.


NAS MISSION

To deliver a world-class, high-end computing environment and modeling and
simulation capabilities that enable NASA to improve aerospace technology, safely
conduct human and robotic space exploration, and advance our knowledge of Earth
and the universe beyond.
