Soluble fiber dissolves in liquids and is found in legumes, nuts, oats and
fruits. Insoluble fiber is found in the skins and seeds of fruits and
vegetables, as well as grains.

The research around whether fiber is beneficial for constipation is a bit
confusing. It depends to some degree on the type of fiber, as well as
constipation symptoms.

Soluble fiber helps soften and bulk the stool. It has shown better results in
reducing constipation than insoluble fiber (7, 8, 9).

In fact, insoluble fiber can worsen constipation for some IBS patients. Lower
insoluble fiber intake is advised for those with constipation from slow bowel
transit or pelvic floor dysfunction (1. Incorporating more foods rich in soluble
fiber may be useful, but use caution if you’re sensitive to FODMAPs.

A registered dietitian can help you plan a low- FODMAP diet that includes
adequate soluble fiber. Some people may find it difficult to reach the

Is A Heritage Turkey Worth It? Last year we performed a taste test. We ordered
two, 1. Both were raised by Diestel, a large, independent, family- owned turkey
ranch in California. By all accounts the birds had a good life and one bad day,
living on pasture, free- ranging and eating vegetarian feed and whatever bugs
they could grab until slaughter. The turkeys were both purchased fresh and were
prepared, brined, roasted and served the same way, and at the same time.

The only difference, really, was breed. One of these birds was a typical
Thanksgiving gobbler, a Broad Breasted White (BBW) type bird, bred for lots of
white meat, a high meat- to- bone ratio and quick growth. The Broad Breasted
White is the standard commercial breed, and every Butterball factory in the
country is filled with these poor birds who, owing to breeder’s selecting for
larger and larger breasts, suffer from health issues and an inability to mate
naturally. The typically soporific flavor of the Broad Breasted White is often
blamed on the breed, but a boring diet and poor grow- out conditions in a
commercial setting (big sheds where the birds get little exercise and can’t
engage in their basic turkey behavior) is probably as least as guilty as the
breed.

We recommend 1lb per person for a turkey under 18lb and 1/2lb per person for
turkeys over 20lbs (the larger the turkey, the more meat you yield) Look for the

the heritage turkey world about big name ranch Diestel marketing their not-
exactly- heritage birds as “Heirloom” in what appears to be a total Whole Foods
clientele marketing coup. Heritage turkeys are purebreds that go back a long
way. There are standards the breed has to meet, just like with purebred dogs or
cats. It seems Diestel’s heirloom birds are bred from Auburn Turkeys and Bronze
Turkeys.

Everyone agrees that the Auburn is a true heritage breed. Bronze Turkeys have a
heritage “Standard” line that is able to breed naturally, and an “Improved”
Broad Breasted line that has a long pedigree but is unable to breed naturally
and is therefore decidedly not heritage. According to the Heritage Turkey
Foundation, Diestel’s Heirloom birds are bred from the Broad Breasted Bronze
variety, an older variety but not a heritage breed, which the HTF describes as,
“essentially a [Broad Breasted] White, but with brown feathers.” This makes the
Diestel Heirlooms, “actually an organically raised crossbreed that incorporates
both heritage genes and nonheritage,” according to Chow. Although it is a bit
hard to sort through all the information out there, the point is that just
because it walks like a heritage turkey and gobbles like a heritage turkey and
is marketed like a heritage turkey, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a true
heritage turkey.

So if you are looking for true pure- bred heritage cache and flavor, do a little
research so you know what, exactly, you are buying. And be willing to pay for
it, since $4. An 1. 1. 5 pound true heritage bird purchased from the highly
regarded Good Shepherd Turkey Ranch, for example, costs $1. The Results. So what
does this all mean for our big turkey taste- off? Once we got the birds out of
their plastic shrink- wrap there were a few visual differences. The BBW was, as
one would expect, larger of chest, and wider, but not by a shocking degree.

The Heirloom bird had slightly longer, larger legs and thighs and narrower
breast development but again the difference was not dramatic. L: Heirloom, R:
BBWNeither bird was injected with a weight- enhancing and flavor- diluting
chemical salt solution, and neither had one of those terribly obnoxious plastic
red pop- up timers plunged into it’s breast. These things all by themselves are
worth at least 7.

In the brine. Upper- left: BBW; Lower- right: Heirloom. Total cooking shrinkage
loss on the two birds was about identical, but the Heirloom bird reached 1. I
pulled the birds from the oven and let them rest, about 2. BBW obtained the same
temp. I never truss poultry because it just leads to flabby skin between the
breast and thigh and does not, contrary to popular belief, result in “more even
roasting.”It may just be perception lining up with expectation, but 5 out of 6
of the adult tasters preferred the Heirloom turkey to the Broad Breasted White.

The Perfect Turkey Dinner ~ Step by Step « Hayter's Farm. We recommend  1lb per

other foods. When prepping the turkey, it important to wash all kitchen surfaces
that will come into contact with the turkey. WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY with
SOAP and water for 2. Wash kitchen surfaces with dish soap, then rinse with a
sanitizing solution of 1 capful of chlorine bleach in a sink full of warm water.

Follow with a rinse of hot water. PREHEAT the oven to 4. You may want to remove
the middle and top racks.

REMOVE THE PLASTIC wrap from the thawed turkey. Take the giblets and neck from
the body cavity. If you are STUFFING, either use a prepared mix or make your
own.

Stuff the turkey loosely, as stuffing expands as it cooks. See Recipe section
for a stuffing recipe. Place the turkey in either a roasting PAN or in a
disposable foil pan. If the turkey is very large, sometimes a foil pan works
better. Use a baking sheet for support .

You can mold the pan around the turkey. You may want to add a small amount (up
to 1 cup) of water,  broth or ginger ale to the pan.

Cover with lid or foil. Place the turkey on the bottom shelf of the oven. Let
the turkey cook at 4. UNTIL you hear the turkey start to crackle. REDUCE
TEMPERATURE TO 3. F. for the remainder of the cooking time. Check for doneness
by inserting a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the breast.

It should read 1. F (7. 7 C). 1. 0. After the turkey has finished cooking,
remove from oven, cover with foil and LET THE TURKEY REST for about 1. Remove
the STUFFING and place in a bowl. Place in oven to keep warm.

CARVING the turkey can seem like a daunting task.  Following these tips will
make it much easier. Begin with a very sharp knife. Use a cutting board with a
towel underneath to prevent slipping. Cut the drums/legs off, then the wings.
Using a carving fork (has two long prongs) put fork deeply into  breast. On a
slight angle, start slicing the other  breast 1/2 inch thick.

Until getting close to bone. Carve other breast in same angle against the grain.
Use secure meat with fork in thigh.

Continue carving thighs with same procedure. Spoon some juices from the pan
 over the turkey. Cover and return to oven to keep warm. Make gravy from the pan
drippings, use the water from the potatoes or other veggies for added flavour
and nutrients.   If the gravy is too light add 1 – 2 Tbsp INSTANT coffee
grounds. Season with salt, pepper, garlic, basil or thyme. Thicken with flour or
corn starch.

Sides: Mashed  Potatoes, peas & carrots, squash/turnip  and coleslaw pairs well
with a traditional Turkey Dinner. REFRIGERATE the cooked meat within 2 hours of
cooking. Once carcass is cooled, put  in plastic bag and freeze. It will make a
great soup stock later. There are many great recipes that are available for
turkey leftovers. Prepare casseroles and freeze before left over turkey
gets dried out. Leftover  Turkey should be consumed within 3 – 4 days.

Statistics Office today released the latest publication in its series of Census
2. April 2. 01. 1, while the number of young adults aged 1.

Today’s publication, “Profile 2 Older and Younger” examines the age of Ireland’s
population and the characteristics of different age groups by geographic area,
accommodation, household composition and marital status. Deirdre Cullen, Senior
Statistician at the CSO: “This profile report is the second of ten profile
reports examining the definitive results of Census 2. This continues our
publishing approach of presenting more interpretation and analysis of the data
accompanied by illustrative presentations, thematic maps and easy to read

NYC Population: Current and Projected Populations. Introduction. The U. S.
Census Bureau prepares estimates of total population for all counties in the
United States on an annual basis, using a demographic procedure known as the
“administrative records method” (described below). This method assumes that
post- census population change can be closely approximated with vital statistics
data on births and deaths, along with other administrative and survey data that
provide a picture of migration patterns.

Total Population. According to U. S. Census Bureau population estimates, New
York City’s population increased from 8,1. April of 2. 01. 0 to 8,5. July of 2.

individuals aspiring for a better life. This very vibrant picture is what makes
New York City’s population extraordinary and different from most other places in

Infant Reflux Medication | Reflux Rebels. The flow of food into and out of the

continue to give your child the H2 medication for 2 weeks to provide coverage
until the PPI is working. The only precaution is that you should space the H2
and PPI medications 4 hours apart).

PPI DELAYED VS. IMMEDIATE RELEASE PPIDelayed Release (Enterically Coated)The
active ingredient is contained within enteric coated granules/beads that are
resistant to stomach acid. The coating only comes off when they reach the higher
p. H (less acidic) environment of the stomach/small intestine and the medication
is then absorbed into the blood stream.

The delayed release PPIs should be given on an empty stomach as food within the
stomach can both lower the level of absorption and raise the p. H in the
stomach. This causes the enteric coating on the drug to dissolve, which then
leaves the drug vulnerable to acid exposure in the stomach & can destroy the
active ingredient. If necessary, the delayed release PPI (beads from within the
capsule after opening) can be given with some acidic food (applesauce or apple
juice).

If given with milk, formula or another non- acidic food, the enteric coating
will dissolve and degrade before having the ability to reach the proton
pumps.***There is now a product available that is made from the perfect
combination of buffers that minimize gas and maximize acid neutralization. Don’t

My friends and relatives: O'maka teca waste yuha'hwo! As we continue to survive
the winter and tolerate the cold, I would like to remind everyone to check on
each other. Check on your neighbor, especially our elders, and make sure they
have propane, food and make sure their basements or crawlspaces are insulated so
water pipes do not freeze. We have been getting emergency phone calls of
waterlines freezing and bursting and this does not surprise any of us. It is
very cold out and issues such as water lines freezing and bursting are common.
However, making sure crawl spaces and other exposed lines are insulated will
help relieve many of the water line issues we are experiencing.

The Tribal administration building had a water line break inside the building
that caused alarms to sound and we needed to close for the remainder of the day.
So, even though the water lines were on the inside the cold contributed to them
breaking. Also, ventilation pipes sometimes get frozen and sewer odor will smell
up the house. Make sure you young men are checking on kunsi and ukanna and make
sure their ventilation pipes are not frozen. Finally, if Housing units have
issues with water or heat make sure you call the Housing number or the on- call
number.

Our Housing guys are doing the best they can; and our facilities maintenance. I
spent a full day in Bismarck with a full board for United Tribes Technical
College and United Tribes of North Dakota. We had some healthy debates with the
North Dakota United States Attorney regarding criminal investigations and
missing and murdered indigenous women.

My good friend, MHA chairman Mark Fox, shared some eye- opening information with
all of us, but directed to the U. S. Attorney, about the multiple murders and
heavy drug trafficking on his reservation. Besides Chairman Fox and I, the other
three chairmen and chairwoman also had concerns with the lack of attention given
to the tribes when major crimes happen on the reservations. Our goals are to get
federal policy changes on the federal level and with the support from the U. S.
Attorney we can begin to argue our position for enhanced jurisdiction over non-
natives that come onto our reservations and commit crime. We passed resolutions
to meet with the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and begin the process of
having the Committee hold a field hearing on one of our reservations in the
Great Plains – or at the very least Bismarck or Rapid City.

I am going to offer holding these field hearings on our Reservation for a couple
of reasons. We have been leading the charge when it comes to fighting for more
resources to build detention facilities that are designed to hold treatment and
counseling sessions. We are the most recent example of the BIA coming in and
decommissioning our jail, but leaving us no plan to replace it, which has caused
our Tribe a tremendous amount of stress. We arrest criminals and sometimes have
to release them because all the surrounding jails are full. We have been
knocking down meth labs and making some real progress in this war against meth.

I will continue to push our law enforcement to crack down and knock down more
meth labs until they are all gone. We will continue to work with local and
federal agencies to clean up northeast South Dakota of meth, heroin and other
hard drugs.

It is for those reasons I'm asking our Tribe to be the host; however, we might
have to settle for Rapid City or Bismarck. Either way, it will be a sign of good
faith if we can get the SCIA to come to Great Plains and hold a field hearing on
our law enforcement needs. My offer still stands and I have Tribal members that
can attest: if you are a user or know of someone that uses and they want to get
into treatment, all they need to do is call me at the office, 6. I do not answer
leave a message and call back number, or call 6.

If you are serious about getting into treatment we will get you an evaluation
and we will find you a place to get good treatment. I have helped eight people

victime qui fait obstacle à ce que la justice fonctionne normalement. Il faut
bien se souvenir que sous l’Ancien Régime, un contrat a été passé par le Roi
avec les sujets, contrat repris par la République : en contrepartie de
l’obéissance et du respect des personnes, et déjà des institutions, l’Etat
assure la justice qui dès lors de privée devient publique.

C’est lui qui dirige l’enquête policière, décide des suites judiciaires au nom
de l’opportunité (politique) de poursuites quitte à ce que la victime ait la
possibilité de passer outre par une constitution de partie civile. C’est encore
l’Etat qui requiert la peine et la fait exécuter, y compris dans ses modalités
(bracelet électronique, libération conditionnelle, etc.). On est sur une
fonction régalienne : sanctionner la violation de la loi et éviter la
réitération et veiller à l’exemplarité. Ce n’est que depuis peu qu’on parle d’en
profiter pour rendre aussi justice à la victime !

Le procès est centré sur l’auteur présumé. Parfois même on oublie la victime.
Dans ce palais de justice somme toute récent – 1. TGI de Bobigny, deuxième
tribunal de France, aucune place spécifique n’ayant été prévue pour les victimes
on a dû rajouter pour elles deux chaises devant le premier rang du public !

Tout un symbole. A l’audience durant toute une époque on assistait à cette scène
très violente pour la victime appelée à la barre de prévenus.– « Vous vous
constituez partie civile Madame ?– …. Euh je ne comprends pas Monsieur le
président– Je vous demande si vous entendez demander quelque chose au tribunal
!– Que dois- je demander ?– C’est à vous de nous le dire ! Je ne sais pas !–
Vous avez un avocat ?– Je ne suis pas coupable !– Mais pourquoi être vous venue
?– Parce qu’on me l’a demandé. J’ai reçu une convocation !

Echange restitué d’une manière caricaturale ? Certes mais si peu.

serieux. Entretient paru dans le quotidien Présent du 0. Avez- vous eu
conscience, en terminant un tel monument, que vous aviez écrit le livre d’une
vie ?

J’espère que la vie m’offrira d’écrire d’autres livres. Il est vrai, cependant,
que je n’aurais peut- être plus le courage de m’attaquer à un sujet d’une telle
ampleur. Je réfléchis à ce livre depuis plus de trente ans, et sa préparation
m’a demandé près de quinze années de travail. J’ai essayé d’y affronter ce qu’un
historien allemand, Eduard Meyer, a désigné comme « le problème le plus
important et le plus intéressant de l’histoire universelle» : comment une
civilisation éclatante, qui régnait sur l’ensemble du monde connu et que ses
contemporains croyaient appelée à être éternelle, a- t- elle pu être ébranlée
sous les coups de boutoirs de la guerre et de l’invasion, et finir par
disparaître pour laisser place à des siècles de fer, dominés par le chaos et
l’anarchie ?

Il m’a semblé que c’était là une question vitale, essentielle, qui valait qu’on
lui consacre sans compter son énergie et son temps. La fin de l’Empire romain
d’Occident a été l’objet de nombreuses études. Qu’apporte de « nouveau » et de «
neuf » la vôtre ? Ce qu’on appelait autrefois le Bas- Empire, et que l’on
préfère désormais désigner comme l’Antiquité tardive, a suscité depuis la fin de
la dernière guerre mondiale un grand nombre d’études de très grande qualité.
Mais, du fait du discrédit qui frappe aujourd’hui l’histoire- événement,
l’histoire- bataille,de la difficulté aussi d’embrasser une situation qui se
développe sur plus d’un siècle et met en scène une succession de générations sur
plusieurs théâtres d’opérations, des peuplades multiples et volatiles, qui se
recomposent parfois sous de nouveaux noms, des souverains, des généraux souvent
inconnus du grand public, il y avait bien longtemps qu’on n’avait plus tenté de
faire le récit de l’ensemble du processus qui a débouché, à la fin du Ve siècle,
sur la dislocation de l’Empire romain d’Occident.

Mon livre se distingue donc, d’abord, par le choix d’une approche chronologique,
la volonté de tenter de reconstituer dans toutes ses dimensions (politique,
économique, sociale, religieuse, militaire) l’engrenage qui a conduit à la
catastrophe. Et par rapport à l’historiographie dominante ? Il se sépare
également de l’historiographie dominante par l’interprétation que j’ai cru
pouvoir donner des événements. La période a fait l’objet, depuis quelques
décennies, d’une légitime réhabilitation par des historiens qui ont peu à peu
pris conscience de ce que le mépris dans lequel elle était tenue, depuis la
Renaissance et les Lumières, avait un caractère idéologique, qu’il relevait,
d’abord, de la haine du christianisme. De proche en proche et sous l’influence
d’un relativisme hérité de Lévy- Strauss (l’idée qu’il serait vain de tenter
d’établir une hiérarchie entre les cultures, puisque toute hiérarchie a elle-
même une dimension culturelle, qu’elle relève de la culture de celui qui prétend
l’établir), cette réhabilitation a pourtant fini par faire perdre de vue à
nombre de chercheurs le caractère dramatique qu’avait pris l’effondrement des
structures politiques de l’Empire romain d’Occident, la brutalité des invasions,
l’ampleur de la remise en question du bien- être, de la civilisationurbaine, de
la pratique des beaux- arts et finalement de la maîtrise de l’écriture elle-
même. On en est venu à nier que l’effondrement de l’Empire se soit traduit par
une crise de civilisation.

A proclamer que le monde occidental n’avait fait l’objet que d’une féconde
mutation, sous l’effet d’une immigration « salutaire ». Il m’a semblé qu’il y
avait là une déformation des faits, tels que nous les font connaître aussi bien
les sources littéraires que les traces archéologiques, et que l’histoire de
l’Empire romain d’Occident était là, au contraire, pour témoigner à quel point
il est vrai, selon le mot de Paul Valéry, que les civilisations sont mortelles,
et combien il était nécessaire de les défendre pour empêcher le triomphetoujours
possible de la barbarie. C’est un livre d’histoire très érudit et très sérieux.

Diriez- vous aussi que c’est un livre d’« actualité » ? Dans l’établissement et
l’interprétation des faits, il faut se méfier des anachronismes qui peuvent
conduire à déformer les témoignages, les sources contemporaines des événements
pour les faire coïncider avec l’actualité de son propre temps. Il faut garder à
l’esprit tout ce qui nous différencie des habitants de l’Empire romain, dans
l’ordre des mentalités, des croyances, des habitudes, des réalités politiques,
des moyens matériels.

Cette prudence ne doit pas pour autant nous conduire à nier qu’il y ait des
invariants dans la nature humaine. C’est ce qui donne leur intérêt aux livres
d’histoire. Nous n’étudions pas le passé avec la curiosité d’entomologistes
passionnés par les mœurs des insectes.
