Seeking persons with communication difficulties due to stroke/aphasia,
Parkinson’s Disease, cerebral palsy or traumatic brain injury to join a focus
group.

TRACKING NEURAL SYNERGIES DURING GAIT REHABILITATION AFTER STROKE

Our lab is seeking healthy individuals to participate in a study in which we are
measuring nerve and muscle electrical activity during walking and balance tasks.
We want to better understand how the motor control of patients post-stroke
changes during rehabilitation.

STIMULATING NEUROPLASTICITY IN TBI WITH ACUTE INTERMITTENT HYPOXIA

We are studying whether briefly reducing oxygen consumption, equivalent to being
on top of a mountain, is safe and stimulates neuroplasticity in people who have
had a concussion or a mild to moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI).

In December 2021, Tyler Bailey — a police officer from Bradley, Ill. — sustained
a traumatic brain injury in the line of duty. After nearly a year of intensive
inpatient and DayRehab therapy, Officer Bailey recently said goodbye to his
Shirley Ryan AbilityLab care team as his colleagues escorted him home.
