Learn how to spot email and fake website scams

Avoid email scams

You have the power to help protect yourself against cybercriminals.

Bad actors can be cunning, but we’re committed to providing you the latest
security tools and information. Because when we both implement security best

How we keep your information safe

Phishing and spoofing defined

Phishing is when a fraudster sends a fake email, pretending to be a trusted
source. The goal is to get you to download malicious software or to provide your
login credentials.

Website spoofing is a common technique used in phishing attacks. Spoofing is
when a fraudster imitates a trusted website and tricks you to log in because you
think it’s a trusted website. The goal is to get your username and password so
they can get into your account(s).

How to spot a phishing attempt

When reviewing your email, use the “SLAM” method to identify a phishing attempt:

1

Sender: Check for misspellings and look closely at the domain address. Emails
from Inspira will come from @inspirafinancial.com,
@benefits.inspirafinancial.com, or @investor.inspirafinancial.com.

2

Links: Type in your account website URL directly, or use a bookmark you’ve
saved, instead of clicking on links you find in the email.

3

Attachments: Don’t open unsolicited or unexpected attachments. If you want to
check if an attachment is legit, reach out to the sender directly.

4

Message: Phishing emails often have an urgent or alarming message. They can also
have strange wording or misspellings.

What you can do today to protect yourself

Activate multi-factor authentication (MFA)
MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring a one-time secondary code
alongside your password during login.

Never re-use passwords
Each account should have unique, strong passwords or passphrases. A password
manager can simplify this process by securely storing credentials and
automatically filling them in during logins.

Update browser and software
Keep your web browser, apps, and software up to date.

Be careful of login links
Avoid using links in emails as a shortcut to log in to one of your online
accounts. In phishing attempts, those links may unexpectedly take you to a fake
site.
