What that tells the people who went to the rally is that they, too, shouldn’t
bother voting for him.

Trump was speaking, babbling, from the Wilkes Barre Scranton Mohegan Sun Arena.
That is where the Pittsburgh Penguins AHL farm team plays.
Seats 8000 for “events” like this.

I wonder how many manly men came up to him with tears in their eyes today?

He has speechwriters? If so, they shouldn’t be paid a lot because they sure
aren’t putting in the work.

I’m sure he has them, the speeches show up on his teleprompter, he can either
not read them or he loses his place or simply is incapable of following the
speech.

Today I took a road trip to NY to replenish my supplies. Of course I stopped at
the casino on the way back home. Sat at a machine, put in $40. Little up little
down. 20 minutes later I walk away from the machine with a $90 win slip. Not
bad, $50 for 20 minutes of punching a button. I would have stayed longer but
there was a storm coming through soon and I still had a long drive home.

Especially since they just need to change the city name he happens to be in. And
it seems they dropped the ball on even that today.

He can’t stop being a racist.

From Josh Marshall at TPM

talkingpointsmemo.com

You Should Know

I flagged this on social media. But I wanted to make sure you knew. Trump just
announced a “crime and safety” rally for next Tuesday in Howell, Michigan, a
town that has been heavily associated with the KKK for decades. Indeed, just
late last month White Supremacists marched in the town chanting “We love Hitler.
We love Trump.” Some but not all of the reputation comes from the fact that a
long time Grand Drago of the Michigan Klan lived there and his farm was a sort
of home base for the Klan. (I just found out this afternoon that a good bit of
the 1991 documentary Blood in the Face - great doc, by the way - was shot
there.)

This is the kind of move that will be lost on many reporters and especially most
out-of-state reporters. But it won’t be lost for a moment on Blacks and Jews
from Michigan. It’s a bullhorn not a dog whistle. I had to have the connection
pointed out to me too though I once I did the connection with the Blood in the
Face documentary which I saw when it first came out placed it for me.

That may be it. While following the teleprompter he deviates slightly to
describe a personal grievance and forgets where he was.

I am a master handyman ////

Just a simple job of replacing a f^%$$%#^%# cat door…

I’m even using the same brand and size.
How hard can that be?!?!

Lets see, first they are now using weird size bolts. (A bunch of offsize
4x40tpi) The varrious sizes they supplied are either way too short, or way too
long.
Their response in the instructions? “Just cut unwanted length with a jigsaw”.

Second, what used to be 2 pieces is now 5. With instructions on how to trim the
new pieces. And assemble things in a way that only requires 3 hands… Easy peasy…

Anyway, I replaced the 4x40 bolts with 6x32s in sane lengths, and now have the
thing installed.

But, because of the thunderstorm, darkness and a swarm of mosquitos (at least
there were no bees!) I need to go back and straighten it out.
(Amazing how fast one can work as the deluge arrives!)

And as my last cat has gone to that great catnip garden in the sky, and I am at
an age where I need to start calculating ripeness date before I buy avocados,
there are unlikely to be further kitties in my future.

But the previous cat door, due to age, (and cheap plastic) had become yet
another hole needing to be filled.

So, I labor on…

I am a master handyman////

Lawsuit claims Emory lost part of man’s skull, then charged him $19K to replace
it

America’s healthcare.

They removed part of his skull and put it in the freezer, without properly
identifying it. So when they went back several days later, they could not figure
which one it was (which indicates that there were several other patients with
the same problem).

So they kept him in the hospital for 10 days to fashion him an artificial one,
which promptly got infected and had to be replaced.

So in the hospital for weeks and for 3 surgeries.

And, instead of eating the costs due to their mistakes, they charged him for all
of it and said “Sue us.”

Sounds like a con to me. With so many other pieces of skull unidentified in the
freezer, seems like this is a way for them to make a lot more money.

re: #12 Eventual Carrion

I did that the first time I walked into a casino as an adult. (I was 37, this
was 1997, casinos weren’t everywhere like today.) I was driving back from
picketing Scientology’s event at the Shrine Auditorium in LA, where I stood
outside and exchanged eye death rays with Scientology’s diminutive leader, David
Miscavige. (How was I sure it was Miscavige? He had more fruit salad on his
Damnation Navy “uniform” than anyone else there and my handlers—trying to block
my sign with balloons—freaked out when I mentioned his name.)

Anyway, the next morning I drove back to Salt Lake City and halfway there, I
stopped at a casino in Mesquite, NV. I had decided I would spend $20 at the
slots and then I would get back into my car and drive the rest of the way back.
I was down to my last 50 cents when I hit a $100 jackpot. I was SO TIRED I
couldn’t comprehend why the machine was dinging and clanging and spitting out
quarters. The guy next to me said, “you hit a jackpot!” I scooped up all those
quarters in the plastic buckets they had, cashed it out, and hopped into my car
and drove back. I’ve never had such luck since.

Trump’s an entertainer who works in vulgarity and drama, and his success has
always been tied to shock and prurience. He can only go nastier because he’s the
endpoint of how conservatism has tuned it’s discourse: AM radio shouters to FNC
pundits to internets paranoids, the winning move for keeping an audience is more
and more unfettered id.

There’s no path upwards, in no small part because the new generation of
oligarchs are credulous consumers of this style of politics and have built a new
“intellectual” infrastructure to echo the same ideas.

Sounds like it was an interesting book written by an interesting man. Kind of
sad though that it fell upon that generation to risk and lose so much.

I used to work, on a software development team, for the widow of a Marine Test
Pilot. She had lived an interesting life and was quite unafraid to say directly
what she was thinking. That, occasionally, did take some getting used to, but,
all in all, I did appreciate it.

While I fully understand the sentiment “behind” the 2-points meme (especially in
light of the 2016 disaster), campaigns do need to employ different strategies if
enough of the polls (woefully inaccurate though they can be) trend in an upward
direction.

For example, instead of concentrating on eking out a win, the focus can turn to
running up the score (which, come to think of it, is necessary anyway to
forestall GOP vote-suppressing shenanigans).

What is amusing me so darkly is not so much the thought that Trump is losing his
marbles, it’s that the media are losing theirs as it dawns upon them that they
sold their souls for all of jack and shit. The only way things can get better is
if Reverand Mike’s fears prove true and Trump drags the party down with him when
he tunnels his way to Hell.

I would support this outlook, run up the score, flip seats, grab statehouses and
legislative bodies.

Dobbs has struck a chord of activism even into the heartland. Women are faced
with the pragmatic choices and men are even denying that to them. Their behavior
at the state level and the rulings from SCOTUS have created an urgency that I
think many of us dudes simply can’t comprehend and when put on the ballot, it
brings out the votes.

Couple this with the unrepentant assholes that are the GOP ticket, headed by a
felon that has yet to be held accountable and his running mate who is the 2nd
coming of Grima Wormtongue.

Since Harris and Walz don’t appear to be prone to making many missteps thus far
and we’ve yet to even have the Dem Convention, the DJT sentencing and the new
debates…. I like how things are falling for the Dems. I’m excited, hopeful and
the policy positions and the people involved fill me with confidence.

The bolded are probably the best reasons right now to be hopeful but mindful:
Harris has more opportunities than Trump does to alter the course of this
election. The GQP convention has come and gone, Trump’s debate performances have
been a shambles, and if he gets jail time (even postponed during appeals) next
month, it’s only going to remind millions of “independent” voters that he’s a
convicted felon who’s running to avoid prison. None of these are guaranteed and
it’s always possible that some “scandal” or major disaster happens that hurts
her and helps him, but it’s reason to feel hopeful going forward.

Nope. Ribbons are placed based on the level of their importance from the top row

any color combo that should be on the top row. It’s a random color-generator of

“AI” pics are not only making bullshit artists and propagandists lazy, it’s for
no good reason. You could literally do a Google search for “US war veteran” or
any variation there of, swipe some poor guy’s photo, and slap your lazy-ass “Rah
rah, Hollywood sucks!” tagline on it and be done. Instead, you spend the time
asking an “AI” to give you a “picture” that ends up undermining your efforts as
people pick apart the obvious flaws and laughing at your ass instead.

I had a guy who did one better than that. He did the first part, the usual “I’m
here to check in, I just made a reservation online” bit that forces you to
explain business days and the idea that not all businesses keep to the same
clock so he’s gonna have to come back at 3pm because we’re not going to toss
somebody out of their room at 2am so he can check in. He leaves and I assume
that’s that, either he’ll call to cancel or he’ll come back at 3pm.

Following night, audit has already run and his reservation fell into the no-show
pile but is still considered valid because it was a pre-pay…and he walks in at
3am to check in. As soon as I tell him the reservation’s no longer any good, he
starts screaming about how he had to sleep in his car and he’s been waiting “all
day” to check in and I can’t tell him that the reservation’s no good because
he’s “already paid.” When I refused to budge, he called Priceline to whine that
I wouldn’t check him in and I get the usual “You can’t accommodate our guest?”
treatment that’s as pleasant to deal with as a cactus spur in your urethra, so I
caved and checked the dipshit in.

The final insult? He then has the fucking nerve to ask for dishware for a room
he’s gonna be in for less than 8 hours before checkout time. At that moment, I
genuinely considered cracking a ceramic plate over his head.

The primary organization is “The Uncommitted National Movement”.

From what I see, you can assume that they and related groups are planning to try
and disrupt the DNC.

The big question is going to be what the DNC and Civil Authorities do to contain
it and minimize disruptions. Both are aware of the plans and have tried to
discuss the situation with the movement’s leadership. That doesn’t seem to have
worked.

The next steps they decide upon are way above my pay grade.

Since I have already made my decision to vote for the Democratic ticket, I will
probably only pay attention here, and maybe a very few selected talking heads on
cable. And try to spend the rest of my time hopefully at least somewhat
productively.

Since I live in the High Plains, one of the areas the article talks about, I put
in my county (though it took me some time to figure out how to do that).

I get:
Days with high wet-bulb temperatures: 0
Large wildfires per year: 0.01
Sea Level rise: I already own beachfront property if it gets this high. - 0
Farm crop yields (percent decline): -3 (that means it goes up 3%)
Economic damage as a percentage of GDP: 0

I wouldn’t sweat it so much. By the time things got to Chicago in ‘68, it had
already been a shitshow of a primary season and the riots were pretty much the
“final straw” for a lot of folks who’d felt up to that point that the Dem Party
had serious issues. If Biden had chosen to tough it out until November and had
continued to lose support within the party, then the planned demonstrations and
the potential for riots might have been the same breaking point for a lot of
voters.

But with a popular candidate enjoying growing momentum and the party eager to
move past the division that marked the first half of this year? I think a lot of
folks will see the protests and any violence much the way they did when it was
all happening on college campuses: A bunch of unruly children trying to get
attention.

People have been indulging in body mods pretty much as long as we’ve understood

A hundred or so years ago, before Cultural Anthropology became cool, “Kill the
Indian to Save the Man” was a progressive concept. The conservative slogan was
just “Kill the Indian”. The Seminole War ended (more or less) around 1910.

So, today I learned from talking to one of my students in Guangzho, China that
“NPD” - narcissistic personality disorder - is commonly used by young Chinese
people. They use the English acronym and it’s borrowed directly from English.

This came up because she had listened to about 45 minutes of the Trump/Musk
interview and she told me it struck her as she was listening to it that both of
them had NPD. I was, I admit, somewhat surprised at her usage of that and that’s
when she told me it’s become fairly common among the young over in that part of
the world.

This is true. Everything is looking good right now, but Trump has a very high
floor of support of voters who will vote for him no matter what. The Harris/Walz
Campaign has to seal the deal with the rest of the electorate to convince them
to turn out and vote blue, or Trump could pull out an electoral college victory
with razor thin majorities in just enough swing states.

My grandfather was circumcised when he was 80. Was basically done due to
continuous issues with infections in that area.

It also happened to put him in the Johnstown, PA hospital when the Conemaugh
River decided it was past due time to flood the city again.

All of these figures are likely quite accurate, and that the Biden Admin has
handled the post-pandemic economy excellently is (or should be) an indisputable
(and praiseworthy) fact. Unfortunately, this is an election year, and Joe and
Jane Citizen out there are really only going to care about the prices they have
to pay for stuff - all stuff - and are unlikely to give much of a shit about
inflation in Italy or Japan. Self-centered and short-sighted, of course, but
unavoidable.
Of course, there’s also the fact that in a market economy like the USA’s, the
options for the Government to control inflation are limited, but, when it
becomes a political, rather than an economic issue, the facts (like with so many
issues) aren’t going to matter much: demagoguery and blame-shifting is WAY
easier.

In preparation for his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, Donald Trump
has sought out the help of right-wing convert Tulsi Gabbard, who was able to
best Harris during a 2019 presidential debate.

Trump’s method of preparing for a debate by only talking to people who agree
with him has apparently continued, as he has added the former U.S.
representative from Hawaii to his roster of friends for so-called “policy talks”
in advance of his upcoming debate next month, according to The New York Times.
Others he’s enlisted to help with debate prep in the past include MAGA
Representative Matt Gaetz and his running mate J.D. Vance.

Trump’s spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed Gabbard’s involvement in an
email to the Times.

Since her failed presidential run in 2020, Gabbard has left the Democratic Party
and become something of a conservative celebrity, elevating transphobia,
spreading Russian propaganda, and unsuccessfully endorsing Republicans.

But Trump may have tapped her for a very specific reason: she may know how to
beat Harris in a debate. During the July 2019 presidential debate on CNN,
Gabbard went out of her way to go after Harris’s prosecutorial record, issuing a
devastating blow to the then-senator’s presidential run.

Harris “put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations, and then laughed
about it, when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana,” Gabbard said at the
time. “She blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death
row, until the courts forced her to do so. She kept people in prison beyond
their sentences to use them as cheap labor for the state of California, and she
fought to keep cash bail system in place—that impacts poor people in the worst
kind of way.”

Harris responded saying that she was proud of her record, and “proud of making a
decision to not just give fancy speeches, or be in a legislative body and give
speeches on the floor, but actually doing the work.” Harris also said she’d
hoped to legalize marijuana.

Gabbard insisted that Harris had blocked evidence in a death row case. Gabbard
was referring to the case of Kevin Cooper, a man who maintained his innocence on
death row for 39 years before he was released. In 2016, while Harris was running
for Senate, Cooper’s attorneys asked for new DNA testing, which they were
confident would exonerate him. Harris’s office refused to allow the testing, and
later said that she had not been involved in the decision.

Onstage, Gabbard said that Harris owed an apology to those who suffered under
her “reign” as California’s attorney general. Harris appeared incredulous over
Gabbard’s line of attack, and said she had always opposed the death penalty.

“My entire career, I have been opposed, personally opposed, to the death
penalty, and that has never changed,” Harris said. “And I dare anybody who is in
a position to make that decision to face the people I have faced and to say, ‘I
will not seek the death penalty.’”

Harris has already gotten some heat from conservatives for her opposition to the
death penalty, specifically over her decision in 2019 not to recommend the death
penalty for a man who killed a police officer, despite a pressure campaign from
several California Democrats and the officer’s widow. As a freshly elected
district attorney, Harris kept to her campaign promise that she would not seek
the death penalty.

Trump may hope that Gabbard can give him the edge to go face-to-face with
Harris, something he has spent the better part of a month trying desperately to
avoid. Amid the scheduling chaos and uncertainty, Trump’s team insisted Thursday
that the former president had agreed to a whopping three debates, something no
one asked for. Meanwhile, Harris’s team has agreed to the first on September 10
hosted by ABC, and if Trump appears, they will go from there.

The debate is where Harris is going to nail Trump down on the nation-wide
abortion ban question. A policy question where he will stammer and dodge and
look really bad attempting to not give an answer. Or he will make a definite
statement that will be a definite campaign ad either way.

And even if the moderators dodge the question being asked Trump will act out at
some point and give Harris the opening to just turn and ask Trump the question
outright.

The press can fuck straight off, let us count the ways

The lazy stenographers of the corporate-controlled media continue to fail us.
they dissect the Harris-Walz campaign under a microscope, while at the same time
issuing Donny Convict the endless series of free passes he’s been granted his
entire privileged life.

the Republican-manuufactured “Tim Walz stolen valor” smear job was treated with
dead seriousness for days on end — yet the much-more-real and horrifying story
of Donny accepting what looks like a ten million dollar bribe from Egypt came
and went in less than one news cycle.

hello, media? it seems that five days before Donny’s inauguration in 2017,
Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi had ten million dollars IN CASH withdrawn
from National Bank of Egypt and loaded onto an airplane. where did it go? the
FBI is pretty sure the money ended up in Donny’s pockets — but there was never
any serious investigation, because Bill Barr shut that shit right down. in fact,
the outgoing Trump DOJ never mentioned anything about it to the incoming Biden
DOJ, and now the federal statute of limitations has passed.

shouldn’t anyone in the press be looking into this blatant corruption and
cover-up? Donny keeps holding these sham “press conferences” — might at least
one reporter ask Donny about it?

crickets.

National results are irrelevant. It’s state results that matter. After all, if
Harris wins CA with 100% of the vote or only 49% of the vote there, that
difference has no impact on the outcome. The EC poisons everything.

I expect a lot of “Mr. Trump, can you tell us what you plan on doing about
inflation?” “Well, I will make inflation go down, and Ka-MA-la’s arrests of
people for people smoking marijuana was bad and why is she letting illegal
immigrant bring it across the border and I shall make sure that the government

So far it seems that the Trump propaganda machine has been able to successfully
seed two talking points about Walz:

1) STOLEN VALOR!
2) Speeding ticket while intoxicated.

That’s it.

The second one will have almost no impact because even though people are
repeating it the reality is many of the Trumpers themselves have either been
intoxicated or sped while driving.

The STOLEN VALOR! thing has more a life, though again I don’t know how many
people’s votes will actually be changed by it.

I know this will never happen in our lifetimes, but I would like to see the EC
reformed so that

a) it represents the states’ actual share of the population and not the size of
their Congressional delegation

and

b) it only kicks in if no single candidate wins a clear popular vote majority.

J.D. Vance is a terrible person but he did come from very humble origins (as did
Clarence Thomas). But modest origins don’t make you a good and caring person;
indeed many reject their beginning and ally themselves with the rich and
powerful who have nothing but contempt for their families; they adopt the same
attitude as their new benefactors.

That doesn’t discount my point, though. It’s not going to be effective. It’s a
tired old rehash of the same argument that was made against him when he ran for
governor 6 years ago. It didn’t land then, it isn’t going to land now. The only

If trump brings up her record as DA, all she has to say is that it was her job
to follow the law at that time, unlike him who doesn’t and never had followed

When Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi was asked by New York Times Opinion columnist

Trump’s tired old schtick. It won’t work. Trump’s biggest problem is that he has
no meaningful appeal to anyone outside his wacko base…and that’s not enough to
win.

That, my friends, is the million dollar question. Can Trump stay on message?

Was just blocked by someone on Bsky who portrays himself as a climate activist,
after he posted blaming the Fed for (someone) not doing what is necessary about
climate change.

I challenged him on that.

He replied… and just as I was about to send an explanation… he blocked me.

He didn’t want a discussion.

I have been blocked more often on Bsky in my few months of using it regularly,
than I ever was on Xitter having used it for years.

I understand that this is part of the Virile Authoritarian Strongman concept.
The object being to then label Tim Walz as so weak and old that he requires
help.

I do believe that we have seen this kind of attack before.

The saddest part to me is how the NYT and WaPo so gleefully participate and push
this.

I find that a true betrayal of everything that this country stands for.

Blaming anything (other than interest rates) on The Fed raises flags in my mind.

All too often The Fed = Bankers = The Joos.

As I was going to lay out for that guy, the Fed cares about the viability of the
US monetary system.

And maybe that guy does think the US monetary system is indeed the ultimate
culprit in why we are failing so badly at dealing with climate change
mitigation.

But if he does then it strikes me he is just caught up in the old leftist
dead-end on blaming bankers (again, often a synonym for The Joos) for all the
world’s problems.
