POST:AVANOS MEDICAL ANNOUNCES RECALLS OF THE CORTRAK2 ENTRY ACCESS SYSTEM

Avanos Medical (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) has announced that it is
recalling Cortrak*2's Enteral Access System. The recall was announced because of
injuries to patients and deaths caused by misplaced nasoenteric/nasoga tubes.
The recall includes 629 devices distributed in the United States.

states that, since 2015 there were 60 deaths of patients and 23 injuries related

Avanos Medical has presented a plan to offer users updated labeling to confirm
the correct positioning of nasogastric (and the nasoenteric) tubes prior to use

Avanos is the FDA's second caution about insertal feeding tubes. The FDA sent a
warning to parents and healthcare providers about strangulation risk in the
event that feeding tubes are being used by children. Two instances of
strangulation by children that involved feeding tubes wrapped around the necks
of patients have been reported before 2021.
