5 Master of Social Work Field Education Manual This field education manual is
intended to help students understand the requirements, procedures and rules of
their social work placements. The field instructor approves all sites and field
instructors. This manual identifies the roles and responsibilities of the field
director, the faculty liaison unit, the foreign service, the field teacher and
the student. The field placement process, evaluation process and policies
related to field placement experience are also described. MSW Field Manual

10 Field Training The purpose of field training is to provide students with the
opportunity to apply and demonstrate their social knowledge of the work, their
values and skills with respect to the needs of identified clients and the
Agency`s objective. When students learn professional requirements from the
agency`s life, the knowledge, values and skills acquired in all areas of the
program are translated into performance and professional skills. Field teaching
offers students the opportunity to gain new knowledge and understanding in all
areas of the curriculum through agency-based practices; On-the-ground pedagogy,
for example, offers the possibility of experimenting with differences and
convergences between theoretical perspectives and the realities of daily
practice and integrating theory and practice. The Council on Social Work
Education (CSWE) has implemented education policies and standards (EPAS) that
contain the criteria for education on the ground. 1 This area of the program is
considered a program signature pedagogy.

Field training is seen as the central form of teaching and learning in which a
profession socializes its students to fulfill the role of practitioner; Combines
the theoretical and conceptual contributions of the classroom with the practical
world of the practical environment; and is systematically designed, controlled,
coordinated and evaluated according to criteria to demonstrate student outcomes
based on program competencies. This Agency staff takes care of the student in
the field. This person is generally employed by the Agency and has an MSW degree
from a CSWE accredited social work program. It is best that he or she have at
least 2 years of post-msw experience. The field teacher evaluates the student`s
performance through field assessments and on-site visits. The field assessment
is at the end of the first quarter (mid-term evaluation, schedule) and at the
end of each quarter (annex). Field Training Roles and Responsibilities Quality
Teaching in the field requires close collaboration from the Agency, field links,
field teachers, students and the social work program.
