The NCBAA is a council of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) that was formed over 30 years ago, during a time of great social, political, cultural, and educational change in the United States. The Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will focus on ways that colleges can embed the principles of the AACC/ACCT into the institutional culture and support diversity in the recruitment and hiring of leaders. It is because of that reality that we work to develop meaningful and impactful partnerships within the community. We were thrilled when Durham County Department of Public Health gave us an incredible opportunity to deliver a suicide intervention program called ASIST. LivingWorks Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is the only workshop of its kind as it teaches participants to provide a skilled intervention and develop a collaborative safety plan to keep someone safe and alive. As a result of this partnership, we have trained multiple employees ranging from Student Services and Instructors to Library staff and Human Resources and Talent Management. Equipping our faculty and staff with this knowledge is another way Durham Tech can support our students.
