Healthy U of Delmarva recently announced the winners of the 2010 HUEY Awards. 
These awards are given out each year to local community members and businesses
in recognition of a steadfast commitment to healthy living and positive life
choices.  The Huey recognizes the organization’s dedication to healthy
lifestyles and provides winners $1000 help spread their healthy message.

This year’s winners include Peninsula Regional Medical Center (corporation
category) Calvin B. Taylor Bank’s Berlin branch (small business category),
Bennett High School (school category), Trinity United Methodist Church (House of
Worship category) and K & L Microwave (most outstanding category).

Peninsula Regional Medical Center earned a Huey for its strong commitment to
healthy living and Healthy U. The local hospital has developed and implemented
many programs to encourage healthier lifestyles, including Monthly Health
Topics, Osteoporosis Challenge, 5K 101 Training classes, Circuit Class Challenge
and Sneakers & Creepers 5K Walk.

First time applicant, Calvin B. Taylor Bank caught the attention of Healthy U
after providing healthy snacks in its lunch room, group walks during lunch and
after work and publishing health-related articles in the employee newsletter.
The branch also demonstrated a commitment to health when employee memberships
increased at a local gym.

Bennett High School created a new Instructional Leadership Team in order to
promote wellness among faculty and staff members through participation in
community based and school-related activities.  The team also worked to increase
awareness of health issues and healthy behavior. BHS held several Casual Days
throughout the school year and raised nearly $3,500 to benefit local health
organizations. Finally, the school clinched its HUEY by providing outlets for
physical activity such as volleyball, dodge ball, a Memorial Garden clean up,
canoeing, kayaking and badminton.

Our House of Worship winner, Trinity United Methodist Church, is dedicated to
spreading the word about healthy living and has established a health outreach
ministry to provide health-related resources and education to the congregation
and community. Trinity’s continued support of Healthy U and healthy living
helped them capture its HUEY.

Finally, K & L Microwave was named Most Outstanding for its wide range of
health-related activities.  Healthy Rewards, a monthly Lottery Massage, Lunch &
Learns sessions, a Quick Fit Challenge and an Ultimate Loser Challenge are just
some of the reasons that K&L earned the HUEY for Most Outstanding organization.

Second place HUEY Award winners include Data Services, John B. Parsons Assisted
Living, Salisbury Middle School and Parkside High School.

region and our campus," said SU President Janet Dudley-Eshbach.  Mitzi Perdue is
just as excited about the change.  "Having Salisbury University in charge of
Healthy U is, for me, a dream come true," said Perdue.  "The University, with
its ability to provide academic rigor to the study of community health
improvement, will be able to take Healthy U to a much higher level than any
individual ever could." Healthy U of Delmarva continues to take a community
approach to healthier and stronger living.
