Over the last eighteen months, I’ve been on a fitness journey. I’ve committed to working out 2-3 times a week, eating healthy, and losing weight. I’ve lost about 40 pounds, but still have a lot of work to do. I love trying new work outs, so when the folks from Curves asked me to try out the 30 minute circuit training method their gyms offer, I was in. Trying a new gym can be intimidating, but the Curves coaches made us feel right at home instantly. They talked us through the circuit, and what each machine does, and then let us jump in to action. My favorite things about the Curves program are that you can arrive and jump in to the circuit any time, without having to worry about a schedule. You listen to the recording of the instructor on the screen, and move to the next exercise each time she tells you. The exercises alternate between cardio and weight machines. The Curves coaches helped me every time I was confused on a machine, which made the process so easy. So many things about traditional gyms can make it difficult to enjoy a work out. The biggest ones for me are feeling like I don’t know what I’m doing, and feeling like other people are judging me for not knowing what I’m doing or looking silly. At Curves, the coaches take all the guess work out of the exercises. Their policy of no men and no mirrors made me much less self conscious than I normally am at the gym, and I loved being able to just focus on the work out. Curves International, Inc. happens to be one of the largest chains of fitness clubs for women in the world and its 30-minute circuit work out with a coach works every major muscle group with strength training, cardio and stretching. Curves is also celebrating 25 years of fitness this month, and wants you to join in the party. Find our local Curves here, and see if the Curves circuit is right for you. You can also follow along on social media so you don’t miss any of the anniversary giveaways. Check out Curves on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. This post was sponsored by Curves International but the content and opinions expressed here are all my own. * 0 comments 12 Jul 2017 KIDS GO FREE TO MEDIEVAL TIMES! categories: DFW, dining out Are you ready to blast your family back to the 11th century this summer? If you are a faithful reader here on Bare Feet on the Dashboard, you’ll know that I’ve been involved with Young Life ministry in many different capacities over the years. I stepped away from a full time role in ministry four years ago, and this blog that was just a hobby became a way to provide for my family and fill in the gap in our income made by leaving my full time job. It was truly a gift from God, and the success of this blog was truly God’s provision for my family. Thank you all for being part of that journey. Every page view and link clicked helps us, and we greatly appreciate you. I never set out to be a career blogger, but I found myself with an accidental full time job here on the blog. Things became overly commercialized, and with every paid advertising post a little bit of the joy was sucked away. This blog became something I never wanted it to be. Towards the end of last summer, I knew that God was pushing me to shift my focus from working on this blog to working part time for Young Life again. Though I’d had a seasonal part time job with Young Life over the last few years, this new job would require more of my focus and attention year round. While I was sad about setting aside this space I’d worked so hard to build, the ministry of YoungLives (YL’s outreach to teen moms) captured my whole heart and ignited my passion. By December I knew it was time to let go of the blog completely. I walked away completely for three months. I don’t know whether or not my voice here was missed, but I felt like my subscribers and followers deserved an explanation. I will still post here occasionally, but I promise it will only be when I am truly moved to write by joy, passion, or need. The content on the blog will stay up as long as it makes financial sense to continue to pay hosting fees. We no longer depend on the blog for income, and the freedom that brings is unbelievable. I will still be sharing about our life – mostly on Instagram. Please feel free to follow our adventures there @barefeetonthedashboard. Thanks for being part of our story. * 0 comments 20 Dec 2015 EASY GIFT GIVING WITH ZOËS KITCHEN categories: Christmas, dining out, giving The season of giving can be so joyful, but can also come with the stress of choosing the perfect gift for all the people you care about in your life. When the folks at Zoës Kitchen (my favorite lunch spot) contacted me with opportunity to share their deliciousness with some of my favorite people, I jumped at the chance. They challenged me to find three folks in my life who deserved a special treat this holiday season. Narrowing it down to three was incredibly difficult, but I decided on three women who serve with me in Young Life and YoungLives. Each of these ladies give so much of their time, energy, and love to this ministry and I wish I could give them so much more. Read on to find out more about them and about how Zoës Kitchen can simplify gift giving in your life. We’ve just started using a brand new method to buy and sell our stuff online – the VarageSale app. Former elementary school teacher Tami Zuckerman created VarageSale with her husband with the goal of making a more user friendly option than classified sites or social networks. VarageSale makes it easy to list your unwanted items and simple to search for whatever you’re looking for. I love that we can search specifically in our community, and see the real identities of other members. Our experience has been really positive so far, and I think the app will continue to improve as more members join. Right now VarageSale is active in 42 states with hundreds of local communities and millions of users. New communities are being added all the time. It is free to use through the app or desktop, and can be found at www.varagesale.com. You can find great deals with stuff being sold for a fraction of retail prices. Declutter your home by selling toys and clothes your children have outgrown, or anything you don’t use any more. You can use the app without worry because every member is approved by a local admin. Do you buy and sell stuff online? What platform do you use? Try VarageSale for yourself and let me know what you think. If you are in the DFW area, click through the link below that matches your location so you can get started on VarageSale today. * Arlington & Grand Prairie – http://m.varagesale.com/m/VpzqrBymTn * Carrollton & Farmers Branch – http://m.varagesale.com/m/WyYinD0eTn * Dallas Inner Loop – http://m.varagesale.com/m/hqS4xcqmTn * Duncanville/DeSoto/Lancaster – http://m.varagesale.com/m/vLcp7UumTn * Fort Worth – http://m.varagesale.com/m/86SLojVlTn * Mesquite & East Dallas – http://m.varagesale.com/m/adGCMthlTn * Richardson, Garland & Rowlett – http://m.varagesale.com/m/GTcJpMXfTn * 1 Comment 22 Nov 2015 GIFT GUIDE: JORD WATCH REVIEW categories: fashion, His Point of View, shopping My husband is notoriously hard to buy gifts for, and it frustrates me every time. I remember one year he returned or exchanged every gift I bought him, even the one he picked out himself. Don’t get me wrong, he is awesome and I love him dearly. He is just a bit picky when it comes to gifts, and I’ve never excelled at gift giving. Do you know those people who always choose the perfect thoughtful gift for everyone they know? Yeah, I’m not one of those. I was thrilled for us to have the opportunity to review a wood watch from Jord Watch, because I knew my husband wanted one. The ordering process was so easy, and he loves his watch. Read on to find out more about Jord Watches and exactly what we think about them.
