large number of players in each or any server's ranked queues, or that arenas
have been around long enough with enough matches for things to be settled into
the ideal "how ELO is supposed to work" mode. I haven't played arena, and even
if I had, my anecdotal evidence wouldn't mean anything. I'm also not saying that
the poster is right or wrong. I just wanted to respond to your comment because
it doesn't really jive with how ranked matches typically work.

It's easier to move up initially when you're playing the other new folks and
folks who aren't the cream of the crop. It's also how SC2 is. If you have ranked
and unranked, unranked is where one would typically in most games expect the
potential for skill lopsided matches happening as often as well matched teams
meeting. I'm not saying that would be the most fun, no opinion there, but that's
what is typically observed in games that have both forms of play.

Could you explain how Bioware or whoever could rig unranked games to be less
random aka more fair, less balls to the wall, so to speak without adding some
sort of "invisible" ranking? I don't know, I'm not a big PvP guy. Maybe I'm
misunderstanding the purpose of Ranked queues. I thought Ranked was supposed to
be for the hardcore PvP fans. Where you get a higher reward for facing superior
competition. This is why I was pretty floored to find out Ranked still had
Bolster the other day. If they do match them up as you say, in a perverse way it
may actually be better for terrible players to queue Ranked than un-Ranked.

It'd make it more likely for terribad players play against other terribad
players. I should start queuing Ranked then. You can't even things up without
having at least some sort of metric by which you judge unevenness. No, I don't
mean even things up gearwise, I don't mean match up teams evenly, I mean
handicap the actual player. That's why there's Ranked where there is no bolster,
no handicap, pre-mades allowed, etc. Well, luckily you don't make ranked pvp
rules as you misunderstand the entire point of it.

The point, no offense, is to have matches include opponents who are as even in
skill as possible, and for you to work your way up to a higher rating where you
face better competition. The point is not to dominate, but to have exciting
matches. The of top end players is going to be low, that's how things usually
work.

The point of ranking is to not have to do that. What you describe as your ideal
ranked world is essentially, "let level 50's play lowbies with the gear and
skills that were available to them pre-makeb," at least, in terms of what the
end result would be. You don't force the experts to stomp the n00bs.

together and form your own premade group and do everything that these enemy
teams are doing against you whenever you want to. However, placing restrictions
into the queue DOES prevent players from playing in the same way.

For as long as it has been around, people have complained about the enemy
players. The bottom line is that when on the losing end of a PvP match, you have
to reflect on yourself and your team; not nerfing the enemy. Putting your own
words in your mouth is not putting words in your mouth. I play the game daily.

They have sucked since the server merge when the entire wz game became dominated
by premades. In fact I have never heard anyone except the premades themselves
disagree until you. Dude, Yavin was a long time ago. Yes, you are putting words
in my mouth. This looks like the first smart move they did for pvp in like 4
years. Sweetest dear, Ranked hasnt realy worked well since the 8versus8 launch.
I hope it improves matters but I also share his worry that it might be too late
to really turn things around.

Still, they are good changes so they should do it regardless.
