FROM MY SON ADAM: "Last year I wrote a blurb for my Mom’s Xtreme hike page about finding my purpose in life as a husband to my wife Sarah, who has CF. As with any, 2023 was another crazy year. At the beginning of the year we decided to sell our first home (which we poured our hearts into renovating) and build our dream home. Shortly after making this decision and putting our house on the market, Sarah became very sick and a trip to the ER confirmed it was kidney stones. Before that, we had gone 3 years without a sick hospital visit, a true miracle we owe to Trikafta. She had surgery the next day to place a stent that stayed in for several months until they could do surgery to remove the stones in May. Due to complications with the removal surgery she had three back to back surgeries that week but they were finally able to remove them. Her recovery was quick and by the next week we were celebrating. In August, I ended up in the ER with breathing issues. Being on the other side of the hospital room was a new experience for Sarah (and me)! We closed on our dream home in November. As we mark another milestone we never could have imagined making, we always take a moment to be thankful for all of the family and support that we're blessed with to make this all possible. And especially for the second life that Trikafta has given Sarah. The next and biggest milestone for us, but one that gives us pause, is having kids. Up until the last few years it wasn't something we even gave a thought to, but we both want kids without a doubt. Everyone says "you're never ready to have kids, there's not a perfect time" but with the added responsibility of daily meds, keeping up with lung function, medical bills, and work, it's not a decision we'll make lightly. For us the strong possibility of having a child with CF doesn't deter us from having kids, it just means we need to be extra prepared when we do. We're firm believers that God will provide for us and gives his biggest battles to his strongest warriors. We're truly grateful for everything the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Xtreme hike, all of those hiking, and everyone who has supported them each year have done in finding a cure for CF and allowing us to continue dreaming and shooting for the stars. #untilitsdone COMMENTS MY ACHIEVEMENTS * * * * * * * * MY ACTIVITY I've Achieved 24.69 miles My Goal Is 265 miles HIKE WITH ME!
