OUR STORY

At seven years old, I discovered my passion for woodworking when my dad handed
me a handsaw and a pallet of wood, sparking a journey of creativity and
self-expression. Despite struggling in academics all my life due to learning
differences, woodworking became my refuge and a source of confidence. During the
Covid-19 lockdown, I honed my skills through YouTube tutorials, eventually
excelling in woodshop when I returned to school. In 2024, I turned my passion
into a business, creating and selling handmade products. My first sales event
was a success, leading to partnerships with local retailers and proving that, at
just 19 years old, I could achieve what many only dream of, building a
successful small business from the ground up.

Sustainability

At Cooper's Carpentry & Woodworking, we are committed to sustainability through
our efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste. One of our key initiatives is
repurposing firewood destined for burn piles. By transforming this wood into
beautifully crafted pieces, we not only give it a new purpose but also
contribute to a healthier environment by reducing excess greenhouse gas
emissions.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CUTTING BOARD

Cleaning After Use

1. Hand wash only

Use warm water and mild dish soap to clean the board. Avoid submerging the
board in water, as wood can warp, bend and crack when exposed to excess moisture

2. Scrub with a non-abrasive sponge to remove food residue.

Sanitize

 1. After cutting raw meat, fish, or poultry, sanitize the board by wiping it
with a solution of 1 Tablespoon of white vinegar, or 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
diluted in a  cup of water. Let it sit for a minute, then rinse and dry.

Odor Removal or Stains

1. Sprinkle coarse salt or baking soda on the board, scrub with a half lemon and
rinse thoroughly.

Drying

1. Pat dry with a towel immediately after washing.

2. Prop the board upright, or on a rack to air-dry completely to prevent
moisture from seeping in.

Routine Maintenance

1. Apply Food safe Mineral Oil or specialized cutting board oil monthly to keep
the board from drying out or cracking. Warm the oil slightly and rub it into the
wood using a clean cloth.

2. Let it soak with oil on it for a few hours or overnight then wipe off excess
oil.

I recommend using Butcher Block Oil which can be bought online or in a hardware
store.

Avoid these mistakes

1. Never put your board in the dishwasher

2. Never use bleach or harsh chemicals to clean the board as it can Dry out,
Stain, and discolor the board.

3. Never let your board soak in water. it will cause the board to swell, warp,
and split.
