FAQ

At Apply-eTA, we are here to make your travel experience as easy as possible.
These are some of the common questions people have asked us about Canadian eTAs
and the application process:

WHAT IS AN ETA?  

An eTA is an Electronic Travel Authorization, which you will need if you want to
travel to Canada by air. For a selected list of countries, you no longer have to
go through the usual visa process and an eTA is sufficient. An eTA is easier to
get and processing times are smaller. You can read more details on our
Eligibility Requirements Page.

WHO NEEDS AN ETA TO TRAVEL TO CANADA?  

A) If you are from a visa-exempt country and you’re flying to, or transiting
through a Canadian airport. (This does not apply if you plan to arrive by car,
bus, train, boat or cruise ship. For these cases you do not need an eTA or a
visitor visa.) Please check our Eligibility Requirements Page.

B) Lawful permanent residents of the U.S. - if you’re flying to or transiting
through a Canadian airport. If you however, arrive by car, bus, train, boat or a
cruise ship, then you do not need an eTA.

C) If you are a citizen from select visa-required countries (Brazil) and you’re
travelling to Canada by air. If you have held a Canadian visitor visa in the
past 10 years, or currently hold a valid United States nonimmigrant visa.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET AN ETA?  

Usually, most applicants get their eTA approved within minutes. However, in some
cases it can take up to 72h to process. We do recommend you get the eTA before
you book your flight to Canada.

HOW LONG BEFORE I TRAVEL SHOULD I SUBMIT MY ETA FORM?  

We would recommend you to apply for an eTA before booking your flight, or at
least with 72h before boarding the plane.
