also vikki starting this specific convo with "you asked why i got kicked out"
makes me think she's going to reveal a kid picked a fight with her for siding
with xandra's "prank." which would perfectly parallel the internet's reaction to
her controversial youtube videos as an adult and why she doesn't take those
threats as seriously

depiction isn’t idealization, two characters in a comic where every single
character is extremely flawed saying that they think school shooting threats are
funny doesn’t mean that the author actually thinks school shooting threats are
funny or that that’s the message of this scene. i think the point is to show how
they’re both the same kind of fucked up and are probably feeling truly
understood by another person for the first time, regardless of if it’s a good
thing for another person to understand liking school shooting jokes and dead
bodies. this is slightly less related but i think they’re gonna massively enable
each others’ worst tendencies lol

yeah what i'm reading is that these two have the same kind of shallow nihilism,
including about (other people) being hurt and killed, that's outside the bounds
of the normal but is still just play for them. and that's something they connect
on, or that vikki (who imo is dying for xandra's approval, together with her own
crime scene photo shit) wants to connect on. i don't think it's as pat as
"they're traumatized." probably? a lot of their classmates are! growing up in an
environment of endless normalized school shootings does that, but xandra's the
one who said she'd commit the next one. (as a bit)

They're not idealising these two, they're just depicting them as they are: two
edgy ass kids. I can read these panels and laugh while knowing damn well my
black ass would've kept Xandra and Nikki 50 feet away from me at all times were
these two real people.

pretty sure all of you are completely missing the point of what OP here was
saying LOL (and you ppl are complaining about their reading comprehension
skills!). OP isnt saying "why are xandra and vikki joking about school
shootings? thats not funny" (and in fact they very clearly express understanding
of why the characters are saying this and how this informs us of the kind of
people they are here), OP is talking about commenters on this update seemingly
AGREEING with the characters that school shooting threats are funny. genuinely
stunned that SEVERAL people thought OP was talking about the comic itself and
then went on to try to put OP's reading skills on blast

seeing these children talk so matter-of-factly about their schools supposedly
having no sense of humor over shooting threats is funny in the same way it's
funny when any fictional antagonist accuses the protagonist of having no sense
of humor when they commit an atrocity. doesnt loki do shit like that in thor or

comments actually WERE agreeing with xandra and vikki, only that they could be
interpreted as agreeing with them ("...OP is talking about commenters on this
update seemingly AGREEING with the characters..." note the word "seemingly." i
am aware that interpreting anyone through casual text is a difficult thing. i
may even be misinterpreting OP, who knows, but i was annoyed by so many people
talking down to them without thinking "maybe this person is actually talking
about the comments and not the comic itself"). i can still read <3 my burden is
so great and every night i hope and pray the comments section gets taken away

i think it’s interesting how she’s like “thanks for understanding my
humor/art(?)” combined with how disassociated from real violence they both are.
sure, vikki works at the funeral home and looks at gore but that’s detached from
the real violence or emotional turmoil of knowing the dead person or being there
when it happens. also with the gore being pixelated for the viewers i think that
adds to the layer of separation. and both of them find the school shooting
threat funny because it’s not actually concrete in their lives. i don’t really
know what i’m trying to say in this comment, i just think the disassociation
from real violence that lets them act as observers/satirists is interesting :P
specifically from my pov with the whole school shooting history lol.

I dunno, I'm most heartbroken when I find a comic is on indefinite hiatus rather
than it being finished...this comic not being finished means it could still
possibly happen. If it were finished, the the author for the most part got to
carry out their full vision of their story, and I would be satisfied at actually
reading until the end.

I remember thinking Xandra seemed like the most normal & well-adjusted of the
cast based on her (admittedly very brief) appearance so i'm looking forward to
possibly being proven wrong bit by bit

my prevailing theory for this chapter is that we will start out loving these
two, then we will be filled with seething hatred, morph back a little into funny
discomfort, someone will be starting fights in the comments, we'll get excited,
then mad again, then by the end we will be hit with a conclusion so well crafted
we will realize the turmoil of conflicting feelings and distress we experienced
was precisely as intended.

OP you have clearly Truly been in some subcultures. the most incredible thing
for me about this comic is how absolutely raw fucking real it is. this is all
the most real people shit imaginable. i have seen every single one of these
people's posts and blogs and online presences. i love stories, i love
storytelling, i read all the time, and rarely have i encountered a story as
grippingly, unapologetically, flayingly human as this one. it takes the skin
right off you.

scene ! and how the internet makes people feel distant from the real violence
that theyre seeing !!
And also: it's basically NEVER that i see trans characters that feel so fricken
REAL and messed up in realistic ways and who i relate with so much, its really
rare to see trans characters written like that !!! i feel so spoiled i just want
everything i read to be like this from now on its FRICKEN GREAT !!!!!!!!!
everybody else in the comments is doing like. deep analysis of the themes and
symbolism and i wish i was that smart but i've just been slurping this shit up
like a rabid goat ASKKDJASKDJASDKJASD
It feels almost illegal that this is the product of YEARS AND YEARS of ur blood

There would probably be a warning at the start of the chapter if there was going

warnings have changed mid chapter before)

also hi i got here from a lady's video essay. i linked the comic to like 6 of my
friends. i have a lot of trans masc and afab nc friends.
i liked the part where the grandmom was trying to tell him she forgives him for
everything. it is ambiguous if she knows he tried to khs the previous night.
my grandmom has the same name. she's very religious and it is the theme of her
dementia lately. but she doesn't tell me god forgives me.
i cried really hard at that part in the comic.
