WHY PAY TRANSPARENT?

Employees share salaries with colleagues, friends and families. They use public
information to draw conclusions about the competitiveness of their reward
package - regardless of whether the source of information is accurate or
provides a fair total reward comparison. This means that pay transparency exists
in your business whether you like it or not.

 

The question is simple: Do you want to own your pay narrative or leave it to
others? Until you choose the first option, you will be allowing inaccurate
conclusions to be drawn about the competitiveness of your reward programme by
employees, candidates, investors and third parties (including accreditation
schemes like B Corp). After all, if you have fair, robust and carefully curated
salary structure methodologies then why wouldn't you have at least something to
say about them?



UK rewards is changing - fast - and while the new EU Pay Transparency Directive
has not yet transposed to the UK, the country has already launched a pay
transparency pilot and the market is moving under pressure from multiple
stakeholder groups. Still, most businesses are far behind where they need to be
to realise basic pay transparency to meet the expectations of core stakeholders,
including regulators, investors, the media and (future) employees. Fortunately,
by acting now, business can not only mitigate a growing HR and reputational risk
but maximise an opportunity to make positive change through small steps which
make a big difference.

special interest in building fair, transparent and sustainable reward
structures. I setup Pay Transparent in response to the plethora of
head-scratching and soul-searching I observed taking place as businesses begin
