OK. I'm normally on Jordan's side, but you seriously could do way more with fly
fishing videos. There's gobs of potential. Macro on flies. Contrast in low
light. Tracking a floating dun down to a waiting trout. The rise. The cast. The
wade, The hike. The after landing whisky.

Dudes, you have to get it together. Normally I side with Jordan, but Chris has
it right this time. More fly fishing content!!!

BTW, my rebuttal to Chris as to the worst lens in 2022:

I would like to see more content focused on teaching the nuances of video
shooting to photographers. I like Jordan's reviews but the content seems to be
focused on experienced video shooters and much of the jargon is lost to me.

I think it would be fun to see a comparison of which camera does the best job at
full auto. I often get surprisingly good results when the dial to iA. I’m not
too proud to admit the camera is at times smarter than me!

I've been doing this off and on for the past week or so, out of curiosity,
limited to what I own of course (Canon, Nikon). There are some problems. Focus
is rarely where you want it, but you can override with touch shutter or
tracking. To my surprise, Canon metering has been fooled less easily. ISO goes
too high for my comfort on both.

Overall, results have been surprisingly decent. The biggest weakness with both
brands has been AWB under artificial/mixed lighting, with Canon doing a little
better with certain types of lightning, Nikon better with others. I agree that
this would be a useful comparison for newbs, though I wonder if DPR hasn't done
this already. If so, probably not recently.

Personally I really enjoy the humour that Chris and Jordan bring to the channel,
in fact I'd go so far as to say that's the main reason I watch the channel.

On the New Year's resolutions, I'm not keen on increased camera motion. Also not
in love with the idea of more fly fishing content. More travel sounds good
though!

I like your stories and your dialogues very much :-)
I would like to get more insight into the bokeh and maximum achievable blur
depending on lens parameters and object distance.
Could you give us a quantitative measure for blur (e.g. circle diameter in
relation to picture diagonal) depending on focal length, aperture, focus
distance, object distance ?
Then we could easily compare different lenses without having to experience it by
ourselves.
Happy new year !

Nothing wrong with comedy in video camera reviews.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for DPReview to find a couple of
presenters who can actually manage comedy.

Not going to watch a video on this but Happy New Year to all. I see from the
comments that more attempts at humor are afoot. In photo, as in every facet of
life, many wonderful people are just aren't funny. Jerry Uelsmann was the
funniest person I ever met, so some photographers do have the gift.

Here's to a new year that's built like a tank, weighs 50 Nocts, and comes in a
wide assortment of "colorways". But seriously folks, it's gotta be better than
2022.

My resolution for photography is to simply get out more and shoot. i don't need
more gear... I just want to get out more as I feel like I've been couped up this
past year. I've done quite a bit this year in reality, but I Feel that I've done
way more in previous years -- even during COVID but it seems with all the
disruptions in the travel industry (at least in the US) this has made it harder
for everyone to travel with flights being cancelled for reasons other than
weather (labor shortage in some cases). So hopefully that gets resolved before
peak travel season (summer).

What originally drew me to DPR was the straightforward content & objective
reviews. But over the past year or so, it looks like you guys decided to become
comedians. The good news is that there's nothing wrong with a sense of humor.
The bad news. . .you guys aren't funny. Stick to your strengths. Happy New Year!

I think the sense of humor keeps people interested especially through longer
videos that are perhaps quite "Dry" if you will, like comparing two camera's
paper specs and real-world experiences. Some are a bit over the top... such as
the mini series they did on things like White Balance with Sargent Chris. Or the
one where they were trying to show different methods of shooting at slower
shutter speeds, handheld.

So what would that cost? I am thinking more along the lines of 250-500 type

wildlife, I waste time just getting out to the needed Zoom Length. The Wildlife

DPReview dwells on the latest and what is coming next. That is good, but let's
please not disregard old photos, too. Examining a particularly eye-catching
picture from technical and from artistic/stylistic point of view is another way
to contribute to this community of people who write (and read) with light.
Things both old and new can engage visitors to DPReview. Old need not be quaint
or quirky. In its time, it was state of the art and functioned as the extension
to the photographer's eye and imagination.

Hey Chris !

The Nikka Pure Malt white is just new make spirit. It doesn't go into casks for
maturation - hence the clear colour. Most new make spirit is filtered and then
watered down. I'm not exactly sure which expression you were drinking in the
best & worst video, but I'd say it was not cask strength.

You should be able to get this stuff easily from Nikka. But be aware - Both
Suntory and Nikka still import new make spirit from Scotland to mix into their
own production !!!

Hope this helps

My favorite episodes was the (little more advanced) educational ones for example
about shutter angle, rolling shutter, microphone types,...
Although I hate the technical part of your lens reviews especially the test
chart evaluations. It takes a lot of time, I can't examine in a video the chart
for myself and I would trust you if you only say it's sharp or not. Then you can
include the photos in the sample gallery for evidence.
Gordon was fun, and I really like your reviews. I trust your opinions, thanks

Improving our skill level is always a good resolution. It goes both ways, some

number of lenses.

I have done stills for 60 years, but I have yet to make a video with my DSLR or

older crowd adjusting to the new technical video vocabulary please slow
down...and show examples, if appropriate, that visibly demonstrate the effect of

I will also add that the instructional video should explain the use of common

expensive and too much for hobby users.

@Hawkypuck so you use the green photo mode and just press the button?
For video there are different questions, what resolution (raw video is pretty
rare so it matters); what bit depth; do I need LOG? h.265 or h2.64, long GOP or
ALL-I or something in between? What frame rate and which shutter speed?

Similar questions also apply for stills, raw or baked (which resolution), jpg or
heic (8 bit or maybe more?). Low contrast custom picture style or a more baked
one? What shutter speed is needed when etc.

So you can say choose green mode, press shutter button and you're good to go
with photography.

How about a native fish series (no hatchery influence). They usually are in
scenic spots. Grayling, rainbow, cutthroat, char are all in your area, though
rainbow are not native to the eastern slope of the Rockies. You will have to
