Scholarship Program

The Metropolitan Baton Rouge Chapter (NCBWMetroBR) of the National Coalition of
100 Black Women Inc. is a diverse group of change agents united through a shared
vision to advocate for black women and girls unapologetically. We aim to set a
standard of excellence, create a legacy of forward-thinking leaders, and serve
our community through leadership, commitment, and service.

 

Our mission is to improve the lives of Black women and their families by
creating programs focusing on family, education, health, and finances. We
endeavor to support the community as well as aspiring young Black women by
aiding and encouraging them to further their education. This is a Merit-based
Scholarship Program




OUR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AWARDS A TOTAL OF $5,000 ANNUALLY IN THE SPRING IN THE
FOLLOWING 3 CATEGORIES:


HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR, UNDERGRADUATE, AND GRADUATE STUDENTS.




WE INVITE AND ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM THE FOLLOWING:

 * HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR GRADUATING FROM A HIGH SCHOOL IN LOUISIANA; ACCEPTED TO
   ACCREDITED HIGHER LEARNING (2- OR 4-YEAR COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY, OR
   TECHNICAL/VOCATIONAL SCHOOL)

 * UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS ENROLLED IN ACCREDITED HIGHER LEARNING
   (2- OR 4-YEAR COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY, OR TECHNICAL/VOCATIONAL SCHOOL)

 *  ALL APPLICANTS MUST BE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN OR ACCEPTED INTO AN
   UNDERGRADUATE OR GRADUATE PROGRAM AND SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST (2) SEMESTERS
   REMAINING BEFORE FINISHING THEIR STUDIES. THEY MUST ALSO SHOW EVIDENCE OF THE
   FOLLOWING:
   
   * GPA 2.75 ON 4.0 SCALE
   
   * EVIDENCE AND LETTER DOCUMENTING COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE

 * SPECIAL CONSIDERATION MAY BE GIVEN TO THOSE STUDENTS WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN
   OR WORKED ON AN NCBW-MBR RELATED ACTIVITY OR EVENT. THE ORDER OF PREFERENCE
   IS AS FOLLOWS:
   
   * * (1) INVOLVED IN OR PARTICIPATING IN THE NCBW MBR PROGRAM
     
     * (2) LOUISIANA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE OF EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH OR
       SURROUNDING AREA / ATTENDING HBCU OR OTHER COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY IN BATON
       ROUGE OR SURROUNDING AREA
     
     * (3) CURRENT HBCU UNDERGRADUATE OR GRADUATE STUDENT
     
     * (4) LOUISIANA-BASED HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE, UNDERGRADUATE, OR GRADUATE
       STUDENT


SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION TO THE METROPOLITAN
BATON ROUGE CHAPTER (NCBWMETROBR) OF THE NATIONAL COALITION OF 100 BLACK WOMEN
INC. ON OR BEFORE THE SPECIFIED DUE DATE:  

 * A COMPLETED ONLINE APPLICATION. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE
   CONSIDERED, NO EXCEPTIONS.

 * AN OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT OF GRADES SUBMITTED WITH COMPLETED APPLICATION.

 * LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATIONS (UPLOADED TO THE SYSTEM)
   
   * HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR: ONE (1) LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION (PROVIDED BY SCHOOL
     PERSONNEL – TEACHER, COUNSELOR, PRINCIPAL, CLUB ADVISOR, ETC.) AND ONE (1)
     LETTER DESCRIBING SERVICE ACTIVITIES AND HOURS OF COMPLETION (PROVIDED BY
     COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION REPRESENTATIVE, CLUB LEADER, SERVICE PROJECT
     REPRESENTATIVE, CHURCH LEADER, COUNSELOR/TEACHER, ETC.).
   
   * UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE STUDENT: ONE (1) LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION (PROVIDED
     BY UNIVERSITY PERSONNEL – FACULTY, INSTRUCTOR, RESEARCH ADVISOR, PROGRAM
     SPONSOR, ACADEMIC ADVISOR, CLUB ADVISOR, ETC.) AND ONE (1) LETTER
     DESCRIBING SERVICE ACTIVITIES AND HOURS OF COMPLETION (PROVIDED BY
     COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION REPRESENTATIVE, CLUB LEADER, SERVICE PROJECT
     REPRESENTATIVE, CHURCH LEADER, COUNSELOR/TEACHER, ETC.).

 * A TYPED 250 WORDS OR LESS PERSONAL STATEMENT DETAILING WHY THEY SHOULD
   RECEIVE THIS AWARD AND THEIR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE.

 * A PERSONAL VIDEO DESCRIBING THEIR COMMITMENT TO SERVICE (ACCESSIBLE LINK TO
   VIDEO)
